WhatsApp: 2 blue ticks against Read, 2 grey ticks against Delivered. Does that mean the message has been read?

Confused.

Blue ticks = they have read it.

Great ticks = delivered but not read yet.

However, if they have read receipts turned off it will stay as 2 grey ticks.

Grey ticks mean it's been delivered but not opened.

1 grey tick - sent but not delivered (usually out of service area or phone is off but also when blocked).

2 grey ticks - delivered. The message hasn't been opened but may have been read on the preview/notification screen.

2 blue ticks - opened.

Two blue ticks = message has been read.

However, this option can be turned off so the sender will not know if their message has been read or not.

My sister’s setting is that even if she has read the message it stays as two grey ticks as opposed to them turning blue.

She said she chose that setting because she doesn’t like the sender knowing when the message has been read as she always feels pressured to reply straight away.

Yes - if you go into the detail of the message, you can see both it's delivered and read status. If that shows blue ticks next to read, then it's been read.

The message will stay on 2 grey ticks if the recipient turns on airplane mode and reads your message before swiping the phone back to normal mode. So effectively your message is read secretly without you knowing... it will only turn to 2 blue ticks if they turn tap into it at some point... alot of people do this btw to avoid the pressure of replying straight away with an answer...
