Hi! Just that really. How old would you expect a child to do this? And how old is too old and concerning not to be able to do this?

Go on a tablet
Select a game app they like
Pick a level
Click on the screen to pop balloons, very simple game

Thank you

1 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Why are you laughing?

jealousy? Insecurity?

My kids instinctively picked up that balloon popping game when showed it - does it mean they are in front of a screen all day- no. Their montessori nursery bans screen time apart from a short turn on the iPad once a week and we don’t own one at home. Are all kids different and skilled at different things at different times? Yes!

if you’re worried they’re not meeting milestones then do ask your Hv but if that’s the only thing I wouldn’t worry. There’s lots my kids were late to do and got there in the end! And even if it is indicative of an issue, all you can do is support them.

Thank you everyone.

My 4 year old can't do it yet (It's one concern amongst a few others I have) whereas his 19 month old brother is capable of doing it despite not being given instructions.

I guess every kid has their own rhythm

How are their fine motor skills in general? Can they dress themselves, use a pencil?

Development can be spiky. At 18mo my DD had no speech but she could operate a smartphone. At 2 she could read but wasn't potty trained until she was 4. She is autistic which may explain some of this but children definitely do stuff at different paces.

If your nursery uses an iPad it’s not a Montessori nursery. They might falsely market themselves as such but they are not actually Montessori.

Mine could both do it at 18 months. Great way of entertaining them on a long haul flight. I don’t allow ipad outside of travelling before 5, so they were most definitely not screen junkies!

Is your DC actually interested in it though? At 4 years old mine wouldn’t have been, as it’s quite a young game, so wouldn’t be bothered to try, if that makes sense. Something more age appropriate though would be fine.

My DD could from about 18 months - the age Covid hit and I had to work from home while her nursery was shut. She had a lot of screen time then but now aged 5 can take it or leave it.

They very much are a montessori, run by an extremely experienced montessori expert actually!

They allow a very short period of interactive educational games on an iPad every now and then to develop digital skills - they do amazing work with them - my 2 year old can now read and write her name, dress herself, eat with knife and for etc.

If you’re sniffy about screens then that’s up to you but there is lots of data to support it being beneficial.

Pleased to see it’s not just me whose 1 year olds could use a tablet - weird that it would trigger some people.
