In time for my new year shop can anyone recommend me some easy family recipes please. We both work ft and one dd is in after school club so it’s slightly late when we get home. I am stuck in a rut of cooking the same things:
curry
pasta bake
salad, JP and meat
feeezer food (one night a week)
stir fry
roast dinner
can Anyone inspire me? Kids don’t like fish at all and i think are just as bored as I am!

Thankyou and bonus points for recipes.

Give more of an idea of dietary needs and preferences?

See for me, in our family of 3 adults, it starts with the roast, roast dinner, then perhaps another if the joint is big enough or if not, bubble and cold meet and saled, a soup, a more veg then meat pie or casserole , but we all basically will eat the same, we all like tomato based dishes, we all like garlic we all like salads

My rule is cook once, eat for three days. IE I cook a chicken and then look at that and decide how the left overs are to be used , using the less energy - mine and the fuel, so stir fry, one tray wonders etc

Shepard’s pie, pork chops with (bought) apple sauce and potatoes and green beans. Beef stew, chicken casserole, pizza bases covered with homemade hidden veg sauce (Jamie Oliver) and cheese. I make my own fish fingers - it’s the only way the kids eat fish.

sometimes we just have vegetables soup or Leek & potatoe soup for dinner with a cheese toastie.

People have given some good suggestions for recipes, but if you are introducing new recipes, do it at the rate of about one a week. If it’s popular, add it to your repertoire. If not, try something new one day next week. That way you don’t end up serving something unpopular for days on end.

Last January (while I was feeling super organised) I wrote up all the meals we eat on one page and then wrote up a 4 week meal plan with one new meal per week- worked well until I got distracted again

Bake a massive ham, then have:

Ham, mash, cauliflower cheese

What is ‘JP’ in salad, JP and meat?

What’s your cooking routine/style? e.g. I know which days need quick prep stuff (tortellini, sauce & salad, or freezer food) and which days I can cook something more involved/takes longer. What days a slow cooker can take the strain etc.

I also have ‘categories’ of stuff I think about meals in for variety:

  • roast = tray bake = different meats/veg like chicken thighs/salmon/etc;

things in bread = fish finger sandwiches/pulled pork baps/burgers/schnitzel/sloppy joes/fajitas

stuff with rice = risotto/Chinese/curry/Japanese/paella

potato-based = sausage& mash, baked potatoes, bubble&squeak/hash/etc

pasta - endless!

Batch cooking and freeze!!

Of a weekend I will fill my freezer with dinners for the next two weeks. I get them out in the morning to defrost in time to cook for dinner. Some meals just need rice/pasta cooking and frozen veg to accompany if I can't be bothered to chop (tinned sweetcorn etc is good too)

Shepards pie
Lasagna
Various curries
Fish/veg patties
Stews/hotpots
Chilli
The filling for fajitas/burrito/enchiladas/tacos
Fish pie
Pastry pies usually chicken
A variety of pasta sauces
