I’m fed up with our Christmas tree decorations - a silvery theme we’ve had for years. Looking to get some new ones in the sales. Fancy going more colourful but worried I’ll regret it next year…. Red and gold? Natural colours/green? Any inspo please on colours or nice sales ones you’ve seen.

We don’t have a theme - the decorations are ones collected over the years - some very precious ones my grandparents kept safe during the Occupation and others DC’s made or chose. All the decorations have a story but totally random - wouldn’t have it any other way.

Same as PP we don't have a theme. Our decorations come from all over the place - a Santa on an alligator from Florida, a sheep from Wales etc.

My friend has a glorious purple themes tree

I have a tree with all of our memory decorations which I have collected over the years and I always stuck to traditional red, green and some gold for those.

Our other tree tends to change depending on how I feel. This year it was mainly gold with some silver and white.

Next year I think I’ll go with gold and red on that tree. I have enough decorations to do that without buying any new I think.

I also have a collection of sort of rainbow coloured baubles and some American decorations called ShineyBrite that I got from WestElm. They never tend to look as good as I think they will but I think they need a flocked tree. If I do that however DH May divorce me!

I hung the red and black baubles this year as I couldn't be bothered adding the silver ones as well. Also have chains of beads and tinsel in the same colours.

I do like the idea of a random special assortment although we don’t really have any so would have to start somewhere I guess! Then could add to it over the years.

We are team random. Christmas is
not a time for restraint!

Our scheme is Christmas 🎄

Forestdweller11 · 27/12/2023 13:49

We've had:-
Chuck it all on
Red and gold (multicoloured lights)
White and silver (snowy tree) (white lights)
Sage green and bronze (this year) (mellow lights)
Sort of go with whatever I fancy as I drag it out of the loft.
They are stored in their themes so all together and I just get on box with it all in out

DappledThings · 27/12/2023 13:51

Don't have a theme, they just look sad and corporate. Buy a few bits you fancy in the sale now, just ones you like individually and don't worry about them matching. Add to it through the year. Lots of places sell hanging things year round.

Add some tinsel in any colour you like, loads of coloured lights. Job done.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 27/12/2023 13:53

We have one very eclectic tree (things the DC have made, felt decorations, pretty much anything you can imagine) and another in white and silver. I like them both equally.

I have a Santa on an alligator from Florida as well! I also have one on a space shuttle

This year it was gold and white, but I think my favourite was red and white - lots of Scandi felt decorations, red balls and so on. We had red and white lights and actually strung popcorn!
I've done a pink tree in the back room - pink and it's ge lights snd decorations anything as long as mostly pink.
Peacock or jewel colours look great too.
One place I did a navy/blue and soft gold. That's looked very sophisticated.

CheersToAMerryChristmas · 27/12/2023 14:42

Ours is mostly eclectic (DC have a decoration from each year. and DH and I pick up decs on our holidays too).
I also have a load of plain coloured baubles so usually pick a couple of colours to add as accents. This year it's pink and turquoise. Last year was orange and gold.

Try Sass and Belle website, they have a sale on. Absolutely beautiful tree ornaments with meaning (I have a garden shed one and a bottle of spiced rum one!)

why not include the ones you used this year & the previous years?

Ours is a mash up, I buy a few new ones each year so sometimes it slightly more red etc but generally pretty eclectic.

Ohmylovejune · 27/12/2023 14:52

We have a lot of lights. I think in the thousands. We put them on and it's beautifully colourful. We only add a few decorations that are personal.

Every year it takes a while to put the lights on the tree and to take them off again whilst coiling them on an old electric cord holder and storing in a air tight plastic tub in the loft. It's worth it though.

cardibach · 27/12/2023 14:58

Mine is a load of ones I’ve bought over the years which have memories attached, but I’ve always been pretty firm that the only Christmas colours are red, gold and green so they all match.
I did have a black tree with pink and silver ornaments one year when DD was young though.
