Anybody else just been ill for weeks?

First became ill in October with a chest infection. Had antibiotics which cleared it but never felt 100% since then, now another chest infection 2 weeks ago, more antibiotics but still unwell, coughing lots, stuffy nose etc.

So it's been over 2 months of generally feeling under the weather. I'm sick of the cough, once I start I literally cannot stop, I'm choking and occasionally throwing up because of it. I'm 30 weeks pregnant atm and I don't know how much more I can take of feeling like this. It's affecting my daily life, I've already had 2 periods of sickness off work, I can't afford to take anymore right now and my Bradford Factor has already flagged.

What can I do? Has anybody else felt like this?

Yes, I had what felt like a cold started in September, got worse and carried on through October. At one point, after weeks of it hanging around, it felt like it had gone away then it came back and I had a couple more weeks of it through to November.

I am prone to chest infections so I put it down to picking another one up after the first had cleared, but DP had the same thing a little bit after me. Hers was worse though and she needed antibiotics, steroids and a pink inhaler. Her cough lasted so long she was sent for chest x-rays (all clear). Speaking to parents of other children at my DS's football at least one has been ill for over a month and also had to go for a chest x-ray.

They both tested negative for COVID. Sounds like a bad one doing the rounds. It is hard to get through though, feeling rubbish all the time. It makes every day very hard work.

I think I am going to go back to the GP. I was also given an inhaler the second time around. Helped with the tightness/wheeziness but the cough is still there and will not shift! First time in my life I've had a chest infection and it's really knocked me for six.

Thankfully I never get them as bad as I did in my 20s now but yeah they can really take it out of you. The other thing I don't think we give much thought to is the effect of being ill for a longer period. The mental aspect is very wearing and tiring in itself.

DP was prescribed a Fostair inhaler. We all have a history of asthma in our house (going back to having to use the powder capsules when I was a kid!) but it's the first time I'd ever seen this pink one. Her cough cleared up with a couple of weeks of using it though. Maybe something to ask your GP about.

Yep, same here! It’s the cough that is the most annoying and draining part for me.

Mine was/still is an infection and I must have had it for around 1.5-2 months now. I can be ok some days and then full of it again the next. Bizarre and doesn’t seem to clear, or at least not fully clear.

I know others who are in the same position, must just be a lingering viral infection I suppose…

Not very nice and especially whilst pregnant. Don’t let it stress you, speak with management/HR and explain the situation. You are pregnant and your immune system is suppressed, if non pregnant people are finding this infection hard to shift, then you are likely going to find it even harder.

I hope you managed to enjoy your Christmas x
