Help getting slim out of princess dress...

Sorry, very dull post alert!

My young daughter got a beautiful Disney princess dress for Christmas. However unfortunately she also got a big tub of bright pink slime and somehow (not sure how exactly as her Grandad was "supervising" her at the time) she got a lot of the pink slime on the dress.

I need advice on how to remove it. It's such a shame as the dress really is lovely.

The fabric is netting.

I have let the slime dry as I thought it would brush off, but now it's well and truly stuck. I have tried brushing it with an old toothbrush, but to no avail. The dress is also light up so not sure putting it in the washing machine is an option due to the electronic element. I could hand wash the netting part without getting the electric bits wet though (I think).

Help Mumsnet - I was hoping the wealth of parenting experience here would mean someone had solved the same dilemma and may be able to offer advice?

Thank you!

I thought "slim" was going to be a nickname for someone!

SlimeCrime · 27/12/2023 09:20

Oh biscuits! I didn't notice the typo. 😂

I presume there are no instructions on the slime packet for if it gets into clothes / hair etc.

What does it say the slime is made of?

Yes, what's it made of?

Has it gone completely hard?

I'd soak a piece in a small bowl with warm water and dissolved washing powder and see if that worked. Keep an eye on it and try to remove it as it softens.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/12/2023 09:27

I'm afraid to say, I've never had success getting slime off anything. Hate it!

You could do the freezer trick to remove the slime itself (so either put the dress into the freezer, or put some greaseproof paper on the stained area, and rub with ice or ice block.

That has worked for me to get the slime off, but it will still stain & I've never been able to properly clean that - including on sheets that could be washed at 60 deg

Flickersy · 27/12/2023 09:31

Depending on the composition of the slime, I am thinking a mix of vinegar and baking soda, or acetone (nail polish remover) might work.

PuttingDownRoots · 27/12/2023 09:33

Have you a photo of the stain and the slime packaging?

SlimeCrime · 27/12/2023 09:34

Ah, checking the slime for labelling info is a great shout (not sure why I didn't think of that). But unfortunately any packaging that had information on appears to have been thrown away (it was shrink wrapped in plastic). It has quite a distinctive pot though, so I will see if I can Google it.

It's not hard, but it is definitely completely dry. It's gone quite plastic-y and very flexible (not hard or crumbly).

This is what I had ascertained from Google too. I am just a bit nervous about ruining the dress. But I will try and find a bit more info on the slime if I can.

This is the stain (main part - there are more bits through the net layers of the skirt). 😑

The slime is the type that feels very wet, is quite jiggly, and very runny in texture.

P.S. I did not leave the 1 star review. Although it doesn't sound hopeful based on what it says! 😂

You can't use acetone - it will destroy the dress!

White vinegar

How would that work?

DrMarshaFieldstone · 27/12/2023 09:56

Can you try very gently rolling it off the fabric?

Well it would depend on the dress, but having seen OPs photos after I posted that then yes I'd agree acetone is a no.

EarringsandLipstick · 27/12/2023 09:57

OP, you could also try it

Sorry - ironing it. Sheet of baking parchment, very low heat due to fabric, it might lift it.

The ice method I mentioned above will get the actual slime off, but the stain is the issue

EarringsandLipstick · 27/12/2023 09:59

it would depend on the dres*s

Yes, the netting makes it a definite no (it would basically melt it) but on any fabric, acetone will bleach it completely. It can't be used for anything like this.

You've never experienced slime 😂

It will be completely stuck on. Ice / freezing will make it hard enough to come off. You can never just roll it off; it's nightmare stuff.

TheProvincialLady · 27/12/2023 10:02

With that fabric I would just give up and accept the stain TBH.

trulyunruly01 · 27/12/2023 10:05

What about that sticky stuff remover ?

I think we might have to. My daughter is rather upset though, so I wanted to do my best to fix it.
