How are you filling the dead zone between Christmas and New Year? We have no plans and no ideas... Weather forecast looks dire. Kids are 6 & 9. Today will be board games. I might book a swim later in the week if the pool is open. And then....?

I am enjoying this time away from work and the rushing around busyness of daily life. It is a time to rest and recharge, one of the few times that we get just to switch off and do as we please. Today I went for a walk and to the gym, this afternoon I spent pottering in the kitchen and chatting to teen DCs as they eventually emerge from their rooms. Later we will eat dinner together, enjoy leftover chocolates and play some card games.

Op it's hard are there any ginger bread houses to make? Or biscuits make.

Jigsaws

TV...cosy films and any PlayStation and roblox...

We are definitely doing all that here. We do soooo much at school etc and after school activities, we are enjoying mooching.. Dd is 11 but since younger has been kept entertained by mine craft which I'm very happy for her to play and roblox (slightly less happy).

Long baths as well.

However I do struggle a little with this time because the high of Xmas is over and I actually find new years eve quite hard and a bit depressing....
I dread the gloom of a hard cold January with little funds.

Does anyone ever relax. Do you have to be out and about all the time. Watch a good film.

Some people are active relaxers which means sitting about for example doesn't help to relax them but can actually stress them out.

I think there is more pressure and it has become part of our lives to always be doing something. DCs seem to need and expect to be entertained all the time but actually benefit from some downtime and heaven forbid even being bored.

I hate doing nothing, relaxing for me is going for a walk or bike ride and enjoying the outdoors. I get bored just sitting and watching a film or reading a book (unless is hot and sunny then I sit and read in the garden).

I find it depressing being sat on the sofa all day and it actually brings my mood down.

I love these days.

I read, crochet/ hobbies. I have lie-ins. Watch some TV in the evenings. I did see a friend earlier for a while, but mainly I stay in and do as little as possible apart from the things I enjoy.

I would also have naps, but toddler Grandson doesn't always make that possible!

My children are older and do their own thing mostly, although we might play some games in the evening or watch a film together.

Hmm. Mine seems to be filled with chocolate.

tokesqueen · 27/12/2023 15:34

We watch the darts!!

OldTinHat · 27/12/2023 15:36

I'm doing all the jobs I've procrastinated over for months such as putting several hundred photos in date order then into albums. Sorting out my wardrobe and taking stuff to charity shops and clothes banks. Going through drawers and getting rid of stuff I don't use. That kind of thing.

i do work, but took these 3 days off - mainly cos it’s so quiet in work at this time I’d be more bored than at home! I’m just feeling lazy today after 2-3 days of cooking & clearing up (and being social!).

I don't mind working these 3 days and am in fact doing so this year from home. Similar to housework, this is a good time to do the admin and timeconsuming work things that you don't get to do other than when it is quiet like now.

I am working from home so work doesn't see the multiple trips to the kitchen for cups of tea and leftover pudding.

Peanut91 · 27/12/2023 15:47

Took the kids out for a walk this morning and we have spent the afternoon snoozing on the sofa and watching films. Tomorrow we are going to take the kids out bowling and then I'm working Friday

I love Twixmas but I have teens.
DH is is sort of working, MIL is returning home.
We are relocating back to the city for a few days before returning to the lake cottage for NYE.
It should be a reading, records, some gaming deep chill time.
Dc Will hangout with friends on and off.
It is about my favorite time of year.

Bookist · 27/12/2023 19:49

Twixmas is a very different experience once you have older children. Our DDs are both at university, so it's so lovely to spend time relaxing with them. Also DD1 has just happily spent half an hour creating a ginormous cheese/charcuterie board for everyone to snack on this evening. Bless her!
