Anyone know why I keep getting cuts on my hands?

It's bloody painful.

I have no idea how they happen? They just seem to appear and really sting

I haven't even got dry hands so you'd think dry hands equals cracked hands with cuts. But my hands are constantly moisturised and soft

What on earth is going on? Is a demon coming in the night with a little sword, cutting me? GrinSad

They aren't even in the right place for normal cracks- I get them in the joint creases. So I'm definitely going for the little sword wielding demon 🤷‍♀️
Try and catch him, you'd make a fortune in a circus.

It might be cold weather. Do you wash your hands in cold water? Also if you don't wear gloves outside, it could contribute to you having cracks. I get these cracks, but also have psoriasis.

I get exactly that from using handwash. I can use solid or liquid soap without any problem but any kind of handwash triggers it. Unfortunately most people seem to think liquid soap and handwash are the same thing.

I get it from washing my hands hundreds of times a day and not drying them properly. I have dogs so have to wash my hands often.

Howareu · 27/12/2023 09:35

I get these when I forget to wear rubber gloves while washing up or cleaning the bathroom/kitchen.

ALongHardWinter · 27/12/2023 09:38

I get exactly the same thing on my hands. Every bloody winter. I've been told it's a) Washing my hands in cold water (I occasionally do this) b) Going out in cold weather with no gloves on (guilty as charged) c) Not drying my hands properly after washing them (not guilty) d) Using liquid hand soap (guilty) e) Not moisturising my hands (definitely not guilty,I use moisturiser at least 3 times a day). Personally,I think it's because since covid,I've become a bit obsessive about washing my hands. 30 times a day is not unusual.

ALunchbox · 27/12/2023 09:39

Does using moisturiser on them help them heal reasonably fast? If so, you may have drier skin than you think?

ALongHardWinter · 27/12/2023 09:42

I find the only thing that really helps is to smother my hands in a really rich moisturiser (e.g. vaseline) just before getting in bed,and putting a pair of thin cotton gloves on. I keep them on overnight and in the morning,my hands feel so much better. Doesn't cure the cuts but definitely stops them hurting as much.

I get these. Definitely made worse by contact with washing up liquid and with detergent (I have to wash my hands after hanging the washing out). However I believe the initial cause for me is eating things I'm intolerant to. In my case soya, palm fats, xantham gum etc.

Thank you!

Thought I was going mad - I don't have dry hands but keep getting cracks like I do

I suffer terribly with psoriasis on my ankle but never had it anywhere else, interestingly.

Yet my hands are always cracked so wonder if it means I'm susceptible to things because of that

I am often guilty of cleaning without gloves... I do a lot of it.

I wear gloves to wash up though, and if using bleach in loo etc
