Polaroid Now+ pictures dark/poor quality

I received a very lovely and thoughtful gift of a Polaroid Now+ camera for Xmas and was delighted as I've wanted an instant camera for ages. However, I just can't seem to get a good quality photo out of it, they're either blurry/poorly defined or dark. This is despite using the flash. I tried increasing the exposure to +2 using the app (don't get me started on what a fucking palaver that is), and the result was a totally overexposed picture.

Very disappointing as the camera is not cheap, and I've now used a whole film on very poor photographs. My friend has a Fuji Instax and the pictures are so much better 😥

Sorry, I guess my question is, has anyone had this issue, and how they solved it?

I still have an original Polaroid in the cupboard, all the photos were shit, yes, I'm that old.

Yep, that's classic Polaroid. It's part of the joy of using their film. It's expensive and doesn't turn out 🤣

Put the film to develop in a very dark place, like under a cushion.

It's been this way since the beginning of the instant models. Just buy more film but not all at once or from the same place so you get different lots. It's fun to see how they turn out and maddening when they are all black or crazy looking. It's an expensive hobby. A few years ago for my birthday I gave myself a refurbished model from my birth year. I love it! I have a camera collection so I might have a better sense of humor about it. Always keep your film in a cool or even cold place and out of humidity. That's the best you can do.

What iso is your film? You need high iso for indoors or dark conditions - so 400, 800 etc

when shooting film the more light the better, try it outdoors on a sunny day

I've tried putting the photos in a dark place to develop but it doesn't help. The itype film is supposedly 640, though I've seen some photographers saying that it's closer to 480.

Tbh I'm really annoyed and disappointed with it. The whole point of wanting a Polaroid camera was to have instant point and shoot pics, not having to use an app to faff with settings, and wondering if the pic will actually come out. I'm not a hobbyist so don't have a sense of humour about it unfortunately 😂

It's infuriating because my original Polaroid took great photos, and my friends current Instax takes excellent photos with no issues. Yet I'm stuck with this Polaroid now that is heavy and cumbersome and may or may not work as it's supposed to 🙈

It may be feeding into my annoyance that the camera I actually asked for was the aforementioned Instax, but was given the Polaroid instead because it looked to be a better model.

I'm half considering trying to return it tbh, it was the only gift I got this year so it really is disappointing 😥
