I plan to do a readathon for a charity close to my heart in 2024 and save £2 for each book I read, so I'm looking looking recommendations of books people have enjoyed. I love psychological thrillers, historical fiction and also some light hearted stuff like Sophie Kinsella

I have recently liked The Liar's Girl by Catherine Ryan Howard, I'm planning to read (listen to since it was an audio book) more by her.

I'm currently listening to the second in a series of three books by Ben H Winters, the first is The Last Policeman.

A mix of thrillers and light hearted ones below!

The job or the persuit of happiness by Douglas Kennedy, the best of times or sheer abandon by Penny Pincenzi, no show by Beth O'Leary, early Adele parks like still thinking of you or husbands are good but her recent one, one last secret is excellent.

Thanks so much for the great recommendations, I've written them all down.

The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared by Jonas Jonasson. It's not a new one but it is the best fiction book I have read in a long time.

Captain Corelli's Mandolin is rather good.

The Swift and the Harrier by Minette Walters. Historical fiction set in English Civil War.

I’ve just finished one of the Slough House books. There are eight books in the series they are spy thrillers with a good dose of comedy.

Now a series called Slow Horses on Apple TV

Two of my favourite books are both by Michel Faber - The Crimson Petal and the White, and Under The Skin.

Both so good, and stay with you a long time after you've finished.

Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver. I recommend this to as many people as I can.

AnimatroniA · 26/12/2023 18:41

I just finished River Sing Me Home by Eleanor Shearer. Very moving, about freedom after slavery in the Carribean.

DeedlessIndeed · 26/12/2023 18:45

Lonely castle in the mirror, by Mizuki Tsujimura.

It has been my favourite book of 2023. The way it all clicks together at the end is really genius. It also isn't too long, but I was gripped.
