2 year old dd has come up with this rash all over. Any one have any idea what it could be? No fever or anything but has been very very grumpy the last 2 days!

Have you done the glass test? Does the rash disappear when you run a glass firmly over it?

CaptainThomasPatButtonHall · 25/12/2023 20:20

Hives. What's he been exposed to he's either never had before or only had once before?

Unfriendlywoes · 25/12/2023 20:21

Please excuse the chocolate custard all over her trousers 😂🙈

Hives. Give antihistamine.

Theredfoxfliesatmidnight · 25/12/2023 20:22

Has she been exposed to something new and Christmassy? It does look like hives

Unfriendlywoes · 25/12/2023 20:22

Done the glass check, all vanishes thankfully! Nothing difference that I’ve given her but her sister did take a bath bomb into the bath last night so maybe that has irritated her?

I second some form of allergy. My toddler had that as an allergic reaction to penicillin. Piriton will help asap

OneMoreMyWay · 25/12/2023 20:24

Covid?
DD had a rash like that.

tumblebumbleweed · 25/12/2023 20:24

How quickly is it spreading? With my son we were advised if any other symptoms eg short of breath, cough, swelling etc to go to a and e.

Goatymum · 25/12/2023 20:25

Looks like hives, children can get an allergic reaction to a virus - both my DCs had random hives as children. Def give piriton.
Obv I’m no expert so check if it blanches under glass.

AIBAnxious · 25/12/2023 20:25

Not much help here, it looks like hives which can be an allergy but I think can also indicate a virus. If he's also been grumpy I think I'd give 111 a call personally. I don't think the rash alone can tell you much, so it would be good to get him checked.

TheWeatherOutsideIs · 25/12/2023 20:28

Those who are going on about the glass test - please Google a petechial rash. This is nothing like that and you’re worrying yourselves / others unnecessarily.

Scampuss · 25/12/2023 20:30

It very much looks like hives which is more likely to be not allergy related, often signifying a viral infection in children, or can be spontaneous/for no reason.

But, on the off-chance it is allergy related, do keep an eye out for other allergic symptoms and seek medical advice for anything concerning.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 25/12/2023 20:30

This is not the sort of rash that needs a glass test. It looks very much like hives. Give some piriton and wait 90 mins and see what happens.

Bleepbloopbluurp · 25/12/2023 20:32

If viral the piriton won't help but also won't hurt. My DD used to come up with a rash like that after eating parmesan!

Thanks for that. If you would like, I’ll pass that information onto the paediatric doctors who led our child first aid course because you obviously know how to teach the general public how to triage rashes then they do. 🧐

festivepains · 25/12/2023 20:43

Any other symptoms? Breathing ok?

TheWeatherOutsideIs · 25/12/2023 20:44

Sure. This isn’t a petechial rash. And paed doctor would say that.

CaptainThomasPatButtonHall · 25/12/2023 20:53

I'd be dosing with piriton and calling 111 personally simply due to how extensively they've spread and how raw/uncomfortable looking they are. Urticaria is uncomfortable.

Balloonhearts · 25/12/2023 21:31

That's an allergic reaction. Not localised either so doubtful the bath bomb. What's he eaten or drunk? Dose with antihistamines immediately and keep an eye on him.

FionnulaTheCooler · 25/12/2023 21:45

Looks a bit like the rash my friend's DC had when she had scarlet fever.

Hives is often not an allergy so not sure how you can be so certain!

Unfriendlywoes · 25/12/2023 22:21

I don’t think it’s a which reaction, think it’s definitely viral as she is now coughing and very mucousy!
