Do we spend too much on holidays?

What percentage of your take home pay do you spend on holidays/travels?

We go abroad for 3 weeks each year. Maybe a few days more.

We take home around £75k each year. We probably spend around £8-9k of that on holidays, all in. So we spend around 8% of our take home on holidays. My grandmother was telling me she thinks that’s an outrageous amount and I should be saving the money instead.

Your money to spend as you wish.

However, something to consider:

You’re renting. Any plans to buy ? Are you saving for retirement ?
Will you be happy spending a portion of your pension on rent?

If you are happy with what you spend, then it's not too much. It's also nobody else's business (so stop telling them!).
I'm always glad that we prioritised good holidays over a bigger house - when I'm on my deathbed, I'll enjoy remembering the wonderful places I've seen.... I certainly wouldn't be reminiscing over a spare bedroom and a conservatory 🤣

Doesn't seem over the top. My friend spends double in one 2 week break, plus numerous short breaks. It's your money and you can afford it.

Household income of just over 120k, we spend circa 10k on holidays. It’s usually 2x 7 day abroad holidays and a couple of 4 night uk breaks.

We save but we both work hard long hours so we value holidays.

Thinking about what I’ve just booked on a weeks summer holiday and 3 long weekends away for next year, then probably around 10%, once you include food / drink and other costs such as airport parking, plus there will no doubt be a few more nights away in the uk. BUT I pay more than the minimum into my pension every month, have a very small mortgage compared to the value of my property and pay into savings accounts every month too. I definitely wouldn’t be spending that much on holidays if I was living from pay cheque to pay cheque with no savings or equity.

Should have added that 75k was after a generous pension contribution.

We wouldn’t spend this much if we had dc.

Think some posters are now giving their gross pay rather than net.

Salary is pretty much always quoted as gross. It's unusual to talk about salary in net terms. I've been following this thread from the start and still don't think I'm clear on your salary! But if you're saying that between you you take home £150k a year AFTER tax and pension so over £10k a month into your bank account, then I think it's pretty obvious that you don't spend too much on holidays.

Surely the question should be, can you ever spend too much on holidays?

Answer as always, spend only what you can afford, dont go into debt for holidays (or Christmas) and have a good time.

As for OP, I spend a lot more than you on holidays with less than your salary, whatever that is as it appears you dont know either, but then given my family history, I wont live to see any pension. So as a result the more holidays I have, the better i feel about my probably short lifespan.
But ymmv
