Mixer, glass or metal bowl? Which is better?

I'd like to treat myself to a new mixer but cannot decide whether to get one with a metal bowl or a glass bowl.
I love the look of a metal one as the body will be in a nice colour but is it more versatile?
Let me know your thoughts please

Thanks!

If you're using it alot I'd go for metal 😁

NinNinJin · 24/12/2023 12:07

@Devilsmommy do you think it will last better?
The glass one is tempered. So unlikely to break easily

Im not an expert but myself, I'd go for metal. Depends on what you prefer😁

maximist · 24/12/2023 12:13

I'd go for metal. Far too much scope for a glass one to be accidentally dropped and smashed.

LBOCS2 · 24/12/2023 12:15

I'd suggest both, so that you can switch out bowls if you're doing something in two parts. I prefer the glass bowl as it's better at cooling things down (Italian meringue, for example) but the metal one is much lighter and easier to manoeuvre.

I'm after a ceramic one next 😁

Go for the metal. I like them because they are lighter, won't break (I manage to break any type of glass bowl!).

My kitchenaid glass bowl is very heavy and I tend to mainly use the metal bowl. If you're weighing ingredients straight into the mixing bowl the glass bowl is probably going to max out your kitchen scales and it's even heavier to lift and tip once full.

Metal. Glass bowls can break. But then I have an old kenwood chef and its plastic so...

Madcats · 24/12/2023 12:34

I'm sure I've seen at least two glass bowls shatter on Bake Off (and I've probably seen about 1/3 of the episodes).

Metal. I stick it in the freezer for a while if I'm making something which is better with a cold bowl.

NinNinJin · 24/12/2023 13:50

Oh thank you! My thinking was that in the glass one you could see the bottom better and spot an unmixed ingredient

Metal bowls are great if you are clumsy like me. I use glass bowls, but I mean normal glass bowls, not art glass bowls.
The main issue for me is chopping things so they still have a bit of crunch and not too small. I wish there was a machine that you could set to 1/2 cm cut or something.
