A friend asked the above question. For Christmas, how much cheese v people do you have in?

in our house it’s 9-3. I like them odds!

As much cheese as possible! I generally go to family for Christmas and the ratio isn't as good as I would like but there are vegans which means more for me. I think the ratio last year was about 1 block of cheese for every 3 people.

Justmuddlingalong · 24/12/2023 04:33

We've 6 between 2. Not including the big block of extra mature chedder. 🐷

snowitall · 24/12/2023 04:43

A French person once told me the rule is “always an uneven amount of cheeses and at least one more cheese than people”

AwkwardSquad · 24/12/2023 04:51

We’re five to two people, not including the standard fridge stock of cheddar, feta and Parmesan. Hmm. Maybe I need to panic-buy more cheese….

FindingMeno · 24/12/2023 05:26

Standard cheeses here for 5 are cheddar, feta, parmesan and halloumi.
Christmas extras are stilton, applewood, wensleydale and boursin.
So 8 cheeses for 5 people.
Plus the crackers, olives, dried apricots, apples, chutney and grapes to eat with them.
Delish!

YireosDodeAver · 24/12/2023 05:39

The number of people is irrelevant. You need all the cheese. If you have spent kess than £100 on cheese you may not have enough cheese.

frankie001 · 24/12/2023 05:59

I’m most looking forward to the bake in oven, honey truffle Camembert!

Sounds like our house. We have cheese laws. 1. If you have no cheese it's wrong, get some. 2. There is no such thing as too much cheese. 3. The more choice of cheese the merrier. We live by these cheese laws. We have Blackstock Stilton, Lake district extra mature cheddar, red Leicester, Leerdammer, Yorkshire blue, Somerset brie, Applewood, Cheshire, Roquefort, comtē, Welsh Goats cheese, Gorganzola, Danish blue, a couple of other cheddars of varying strength and a couple of smoked cheeses. We have a cheese shop we frequent.

voxnihili · 24/12/2023 07:22

I’m with @YeahRatFans. I hate cheese. People always look at me like I have 3 heads.

hashbrownsandwich · 24/12/2023 08:49

Currently looking at 2 people and 17 blocks of cheese. Looks like the cheese sweats for new year then!

cuckyplunt · 24/12/2023 08:53

The rule with cheese is, count the number of people you are hosting.. and then buy far, far too much!
Its a useful rule of thumb for wine as well,

Death by cheese.. that’s a poser for Poirot!

WeAreBorg · 24/12/2023 09:40

We have nine cheeses for seven people. Out of the seven people, I like all the cheese and the other six only like cheddar. Personally I wouldn’t consider the remaining eight cheeses as enough for me. So I’d say a 9 cheese to person ratio to be safe.
Also I’ve said cheeses so much that I’m now doubting it’s a word? It’s a four cheese pizza not a four cheeses pizza isn’t it?

MrsHamlet · 24/12/2023 09:51

8 cheeses between 3

plus raclette
plus fondue

plus anything else that's been bought just in case

MintyCedric · 24/12/2023 09:59

Christmas is more about the cheese than anything else in our house. This year…

Brie
Stilton
cheddar
smoked cheddar
roule
goats
pineapple halo
tequila, chilli and lime cheddar
wensleydale with cranberries and cointreau
mozzarella, cheddar and chorizo bake
Baking Camembert with hot honey

There’s only me and 19yo DD but I like options and we will basically live on cheese and leftover for about 10 days after tomorrow!

hashbrownsandwich · 25/12/2023 17:27

What I ended up either last night, being a bit too or mature on cheese consumption enthusiasm, was the cheese sweats at 3am 😬

Justmuddlingalong · 25/12/2023 17:32

Received a lovely cheeseboard and knife set from DB and DSIL today, with pickles, relishes and chutneys.
My cheese scoffing with be more refined this year as a result. 🧀
