Simplifying things for 2024

SparklyOwls · 23/12/2023 11:23

I've recognised that life is just a bit too mad so I am going to simplify things in 2024.

Please give me your best suggestions for a simpler life which is a lot less stressful.

Many thanks.

Less or no social media.

TV off after a certain time.

More reading/writing.

More time outdoors and with people.

Less multitasking - focusing on one thing at a time.

Stop feeling the need to say yes to everything. You also don’t need to have an excuse to say no, just a no thank you is enough.

Not everything is your responsibility, let people know that and make them pick up the slack.

Not every birthday, Christmas, holiday, outfit needs to be Instagram worthy.

Take more time to be outdoors. A walk in the local woods or even walking to the shop instead of driving really gives an extra boost.

edited to add: have a really hard look at what’s in your home. Do you really need 3 of the same spatulas clogging up the drawer? Have you worn that coat you’ve been hanging onto for years waiting for it to fit again? A house with less stuff in does wonders for the mind.

Don't buy stuff.

Unabletomitigate · 23/12/2023 12:14

As above: don't buy stuff.
And; less time on screens.

MuddledMadge · 23/12/2023 22:03

Place marking for ideas. I am too much of a stresshead.

SparklyOwls · 23/12/2023 22:11

I have decluttered like mad and already made such a huge difference!

I've been reading about minimalism and following some posts.

I'm nowhere near a minimalist, more of a tidy hoarder, but it is inspiring me to let things go and not buy more.

I think less stuff is not just less to store it's less to think about and much easier to clean.

Everyone wears the same socks

I brush my teeth and get ready for bed very early. I can then just go to bed when I like, feeling smug.

I fast until lunch; less decisions

You’re also less likely to eat crap of an evening of you brush your teeth earlier

Meal plan
Online food shopping delivery
Family Calendar on phone that is regularly updated
Everyone living at home should be responsible for tidying/cleaning
Have a “home” for everything so tidying is easier

From 1st January I'm dropping a day a week at work. I spent 6 months living on the reduced wage to know I can afford it before submitting a request to reduce my hours. 2024 will be the year of work life balance.

Allthroughthenight23 · 23/12/2023 22:42

Make an agreement with others in January to not buy each other presents next Christmas.

solsticelove · 23/12/2023 23:00

Declutter like a maniac and don’t buy absolutely anything you don’t really need.

‘A place for everything and everything in its place’. Tidy space is so calming.

Don’t take on too much. Say no more.

Soend time in nature and exercise enough.

RoseHarper · 24/12/2023 09:40

I'm thinking along the same lines. Plan to de-clutter. I'm also going to delegate more, I do a lot for DC and I'm thing I'm probably doing them a disservice, they need to learn to do more for themselves, cooking/laundry etc. They are teens. Less social media. More time in nature/walking. Meal plan. Focus on what I want from life.
