Retail staff. Particularly M&S.

I was in M&S yesterday panic buying boxes of chocs and biscuits for gifts, because I never learn... It was heaving, trollies everywhere, till queues down the aisles and people looking fed up. But it was also well staffed, all tills open, restocking as fast as they could go etc (and one young woman calmly and carefully hoovering a mat in one of the aisles looking entirely blissful and oblivious as grumpy shoppers dodged round her to get to the crackers, I admired her 😆).

There was a woman tidying the chocolate box shelf in the packed aisle, bringing stock to the front and straightening boxes with as much precision as it is possible to imagine - maybe 10secs per item and I'm surprised she wasn't using a set square. I reached over and took a box from the front. She followed its progress into my basket, then looked me up and down and I swear if looks could kill I wouldn't have stood a chance. There was definitely a good dose of despair as well as murderous thoughts displayed on her face though, and it was still before 11am. She rolled her eyes as she returned to her task.

Anyway, if this was you - I hope you managed to hold it together for the rest of your shift, and had a peaceful evening hopefully being looked after and spoiled a bit. Retail at Christmas is no joke I've been there 😱 I hope all of the grumpy, chatty, unhinged, cheerful, murderous, and helpful retail staff have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy at least some peaceful time off. Thank you ❤️

@Rogerstreasures Stollen flavoured vodka!? I'm not surprised you weren't keen..!

To be fair I got that one as a freebie. It tastes a bit like a poor man's Amaretto.

On behalf of retail staff everywhere, I thank you @DasherAndDancerAndPrancerAndVixen 🎄😂
Unless you happen to be the guy who lost his shit at me yesterday because I didn’t have the item he’d ordered 😁 he’d ordered an item online on the evening of the 21st which stated that it wouldn’t be available for collection until the 29th. Naturally when he tried to collect it on the morning of the 22nd, I didn’t have it 🙃 Making me the most horrendous person in the world. I’m a bitch and personally have ruined Christmas, don’t you know 😅

So on the off chance you’re that guy then I don’t thank you at all 😂😂

I've been doing some shopping today and met a whole clutch of cheerful and lovely retail staff all of who except marks were only off Christmas day. I've not worked in retail for 20 years, I hope they enjoy their day and more shops close boxing day next year.

Apparently they do a marmalade one too? I’ve got the vodka berry to try. Should be a tenner a bottle, so for free it’s got to be worth a try.

Many years ago I worked in sainsburys. Plus was I turned 18 2 days before Christmas so I could approve alcohol :-). Bad news was thr poor customer when my till broke after putting through 200 pounds of shopping. That was an awkward conversation with the supervisors to get sorted.
I did see trolly range in my queue with people pushing each other and tempers fraying.

I worked in Woolworths on Saturdays and obviously the Christmas period. Every Christmas Eve was the same, you'd get a bloke ( the blokes differed each year) coming in about 30 minutes before closing wanting to buy a Christmas card for their wife/ partner. We didn't sell them individually only boxes of them and normally by that time we'd run out of those . They were incredulous that we didn't have any left.
One year a bloke was so desperate saying he'd forgotten the year before and his wife had not stopped going on all year about it. Clearly he hadn't learnt his lesson. I went down to the stock room to check that there weren't any boxes of cards that had suddenly appeared and there weren't but there was one card that had fallen out of a box that had no envelope and was battered . I gave him this sad news and he said brilliant I'll have it . I reiterated that it had no envelope, no special message on the front and was battered from being left out on the shelf. Don't care, a cards a card was his reply. I gave it to him, he was delighted, I'd love to have seen his wife's face though when he gave it to her.

Nah, the staffer in M&S, whose way I was blocking, complimented me on my beautifully smart outfit’. The customers, however….

I work for a large supermarket. I love the buzz of Christmas. I’ve had some lovely customers and some very rude customers yesterday and today. Just remember to treat people as you’d like to be treated yourself. Have a very happy Christmas, from a footsore but happy supermarket worker.
