Is there any difference betweeen having a Lemsip or having Cold Tablets with a cup of tea?

Logically I don't see how there could be? When I've got a cold I tend to take Cold meds (decongestant with paracetamol) to help me feel better; if I'm truly at deaths door I have it in the form of Lemsip because it FEELS like it should be more effective.

I woke up this morning thinking I would have a Lemsip as I feel rubbish but I hate them, hate hate hate them, bitter tasting lemon or black current. So I'm musing - surely it's actually no different to taking a cold tablet = same amount of decongestant and paracetamol as a Lemsip - and having a cup of tea = hot fluid, hydrating, soothing etc.

Anyone know object?

I mean object to my logic btw. I know I can have whatever I want.

No difference apart from if you find lemon and added honey to be soothing

PuttingDownRoots · 23/12/2023 07:23

I'm sure the menthol fumes have an effect

I do not enjoy honey so no to that one.

Yes to menthol though - maybe I will rub some Vicks on my chest at the same time

I don’t think so. I can’t buy lemsip where we live, so it’s a tablet and hot herbal tea with honey.

I'd stick with the tablets!

Beargrumps22 · 23/12/2023 07:46

i would rather have tea and tablets Lemsips are vile they often make me vomit so not much good

BaileysAllRound · 23/12/2023 07:49

I prefer the tablets + hot drink to lemsip too, exactly the same as far as I'm concerned. If you do have a lemsip and don't like honey just stick a spoonful of sugar in to take away the bitterness.

TroysMammy · 23/12/2023 07:54

Honey, lemon, ginger, hot water. Fresh thyme infused in hot water. Hot ribena. Paracetamol.

Mrsgreen100 · 23/12/2023 07:54

There was something on the radio (doctor thing) saying they don’t work anyway
it’s about having a hot drink ,
we use Lemon honey and fresh thyme , ginger root etc
pain killers for pain,

greyshelving · 23/12/2023 07:57

I don't think so! I just take tablet paracetamol and then have hot cordial. The steam/warmth from the drink is nice if you're stuffed up.
Considering a box of lemsip is about £4.50, I think the hot cordial/tea and tablets is definitely the better shout.

gotomomo · 23/12/2023 08:00

I can't have the oral decongestant in lemsip or tablets so I take ibuprofen, make a mug of hot ribena and rub Vicks on my chest - works a treat

gotomomo · 23/12/2023 08:00

Oh and yes to the thyme - I love bronchostop tablets or medicine

summerhillnest · 23/12/2023 08:03

As a fan of earl grey tea, I love a lemon Lemsip and an earl grey tea bag together - my colleagues tell me it's disgusting but I find it delicious!

StBrides · 23/12/2023 08:05

Caffeine helps absorption of paracetamol so it works a bit quicker...Most cold medicines contain it anyway.

The powders and dissolved in water so probably work a tiny bit quicker than the tablets but i dont think youd notice, so its personal choice

OhNaffOffYouWazzock · 23/12/2023 08:12

Lemsip is rank but I do think the hot liquid seems more soothing.
In the same vein Beechams liquid which is the GOAT as far as I'm concerned is better than the capsule or powders.

EverythingLouderThanEverythingElse · 23/12/2023 08:25

Hot Vimto and a couple of tablets here.

HardcoreLadyType · 23/12/2023 08:31

I also hate lemsip.

There is no particular magic to having the medication as a hot solution, rather than in the form of tablets, but it is important to make sure you are drinking plenty of fluids (hot or cold, as you prefer).

Mirrormeback · 23/12/2023 08:33

I also hate lemsip so I use the cold and flu capsules which are great

Coconutter24 · 23/12/2023 08:38

For me personally I do find the lemsips help me more than cold and flu tablets, I use a teaspoon of sugar sometimes to make it a bit sweeter.
