Lovely elderly neighbour just dropped off a Christmas gift

We have an elderly (still very able) lady on the street who has bonded with my husband over jams and pickling of all things. She's just dropped off a lovely bag full of homemade preserves and I'd love to reciprocate but our trees didn't fruit well this year so we didn't make any.
I'm seeking ideas for what to give her. She lives alone and her grown up children live quite far away. She's an active church goer and gardener. Any lovely ideas? We could bake her something but I'm conscious she may be going away for Xmas or otherwise lives alone and may struggle with anything large like a fruit cake. I'm now also thinking I should check in with her regarding her Christmas plans!

Fudge. Truffles. Lemoncello. Christmas gin. Cheese biscuits. Shortbread.
How very lovely of her and how wonderful to reciprocate.

You could bake Anzac biscuits - they keep brilliantly.

I think it would be lovely to invite her over for Christmas if she is otherwise going to be alone, perhaps not for the morning and present opening or even the main dinner if you've already planned food but perhaps in the afternoon / evening

I want to live on your street 🥰 . This is lovely

I would choose a nice house plant. When she is no longer able to go outdoors as much, it will be nice for her to have a bit of her garden indoors if she's not already x

If she's a gardener then definitely a GC voucher so she can pick her own plant. And yes maybe check if she's going to be on her own on Christmas Day. If she is' she might appreciate a short visit or invite.

Isn't it!

This is how people should treat each other.

What they said^^ plus some pickled pears and chutney: it doesn't matter if your trees didn't fruit: spiced pickled pears are still scrumptious if made from a few market Williams.

Plant up some amaryllis bulbs and gift them? I'd be delighted with that.

A plantable calendar for 2024

im a church goer too and love when people gift me little angel trinkets/nativity themed things at this time of year - also love the suggestion of a garden centre voucher, what a lovely neighbourhood !

I would have to check with her as to what she's doing for Christmas. I'm sure her children will spend it with her, but if they can't, it would be horrible to think of her being on her own.
