I've some weird bug type thing the past week and have been surviving on water and crackers.

I was supposed to travel to relatives in one town for the day (today) then travel to some friends in another town for Xmas day. Luckily I posted presents and cards before I got sick.

I can light a candle and put on some carols but not sure what else to do?? Please don't mention food.

Honestly I would ignore that it is Christmas and do whatever makes you feel better. Stay in bed and feel sorry for yourself or similar. Then when you feel better treat yourself to all the yummy foods and drinks and Christmassy stuff.

Perfect time to hunker down under the duvet and watch shite telly / snooze. Bath if you feel up to it. Dont stress! Christmas happens every year Grin. Hope you feel better soon.

I used to love Christmas on my own. I used to Slob around in pj's, watch all the Christmas TV uninterrupted, do a jigsaw or some knitting or crochet, read a book. No expectations, peace and quiet.

You'll obviously be at home today but why are you writing off Christmas day already? You could easily be completely better by then

idontlikealdi · 22/12/2023 12:47

I wouldn't write it off yet!

OldTinHat · 22/12/2023 12:50

I spend most Christmases on my own. Once you've done one, the next isn't so bad. It's just another day, after all.

SmugglersHaunt · 22/12/2023 12:53

I loved Christmas when I did it on my own. Am very envious, but also hope you feel better soon

You could live Elizabeth David’s dream. I’ve always loved the pithiness of her opening sentence here.

Christmas Day, Boxing Day and sometimes the day after ?!? is/are the only time/s we can overeat, drink during the day, do what we want, loll about, eat chocolates, overindulge without feeling guilty
Now you have an added excuse/reason, so make the most of it ! and Get Well Soon

Did you miss the bit of op's post where she said please don't mention food ? !!

I love Christmas on my own. Get up early and go for a walk then come home and cosy up with a good book/cheesy film.

Do a jigsaw.

Hopefully you'll be ready to have some din dins by then.

Hbh17 · 22/12/2023 13:27

Seriously, why is that a bad thing? Stay in bed for the day - or at least in your PJs.
Books/TV/ radio..... lots of entertainment available.
A serious amount of sleep.
No stress, no pressure.... it will be absolutely perfect.

At least I have saved quite a bit of money this week! I'll have a delayed Xmas. Friends seemed a bit disappointed but I'm dreading telling relatives who can get a bit shouty.

So tele, carols and sofa snuggling it is.
