Would you use this 4th bedroom?

We are away and staying in an Airbnb. It was advertised as 3 bedrooms, but there are in fact 4. The 4th one didn't count as it just has a cotbed in there but we have a toddler so it is perfect for her. This leaves a double bedroom for us and a twin bedroom for DS, all on the first floor.

However , on the second floor, there is basically a 4 star hotel worthy penthouse suite with a double bed! It is amazing.

I feel bad using it as we have all the bedrooms we need on the first floor and it would mean an extra set of bedding, toilet, bath, shower sink etc for the owner to clean.

It is too far from the DC for DH and I to sleep there but we were going to take it in turns to stay there and get a proper night's sleep for once while the other deals with night wakings. It would be like a luxury hotel stay.

Outside of the extra cleaning, 2 things make me think we shouldn't use it:

  • the door to that top floor was locked, though the key was in the lock. (When unlocked the door doesn't shut properly though so that could just be the reason)
  • we initially were going to stay with my parents and when I'd looked at booking for 6, the price was higher.

We did book the full house though, this included pictures of that top floor (it looked nowhere near this amazing on the pictures so we had no idea).

We are staying for a whole week if that makes a difference.

What would you do?

Presumably they wouldn't have made the bed up if they didn't want or expect you to use it?

DinoRodney · 21/12/2023 20:47

Use it!

WaitingForSunnyDays · 21/12/2023 20:50

I'd message through the AirBnB platform and ask if it's OK for you to use that room for exactly the reason you say. If the bed has been made up then they were probably expecting you to use that room. It's very unlikely a host will say no.

I thought about doing this but she's a lovely lady and will probably say it's fine so I thought I'd gauge first if we would be CF to do this.

I was thinking they may have made the bed up to save time ready for the next guests for some weird reason but yes I guess that makes more sense!!!

I'd use it. Maybe the key is for adult privacy 🤣 but surely the listing describes if its included. It would say flat or lower floor and not have the bedroom photo surely. Plus the previous reviews will probably be going on about how amazing it is. I wouldn't message you might end up not using something you paid for or sounding like a lunatic. Leave them a lovely review. You're definitely sleep deprived picturing a secret extra bedroom in the same accommodation made up for future guests. Unless its obviously a self contained apartment with separate entrance but it doesn't sound like that at all

Haha yes sleep deprived as well as an anxious overthinker!

I think we'll use it, definitely no separate entrance and it's just described as one of the bedrooms in the listing.

I feel like I might actually have an enjoyable relaxing time this holiday which is a novel experience for me!

You pay for the property not the number of beds you are using. Higher per person amounts are for wear and tear and things like extra showers.

There is nothing to say two adults have to share a bed. My husband snores badly and wakes me up so we often sleep apart as standard.

OhpoorMe · 21/12/2023 21:40

If it was in the listing, use it!

wite · 21/12/2023 21:46

I wouldn't think twice about using it.

Mammyloveswine · 21/12/2023 21:46

Need to see pics!!

Bedroomdilemma114 · 21/12/2023 22:23

Because of the layout @Mammyloveswine you can only take pics of a small section at a time which is why we didn't realise how grand it was until we got here. We're also only paying 85 pounds a night, which is mad!

Fuming you can't get pics 🤣🤣🤣 sounds fabulous and hope you very much enjoy it!

Tigger1895 · 21/12/2023 22:28

If they don’t want you to use the room, it would be undressed or locked. The cot room may be deemed to small to be advertised as a bedroom. Go and use the room

OurfriendsintheNE · 21/12/2023 22:29

You’ve paid for the place - absolutely use it!

userxx · 21/12/2023 22:36

Sounds like heaven, solo sleeping.
