Looks like lots of go arounds. Would not like to be in a plane in this wind.
Manchester looks windy

This thread got me looking. I am in Aberdeen right now with its famously windy runway( locally famous anyway)

There’s a NetJets ( private) flight from Biggin Hill doing a go around having aborted once. Now I am curious who is on it 🙄

Riveting watching this stuff .

Years ago I flew on Christmas Day. The airport was empty and just lovely, no rushing etc. We got slightly delayed because it was the windiest day of the year. Eventually we took off and oh my days, I thought we were going to fall out of the sky, we were battered by crosswinds, it was awful, especially for me as a nervous flyer. I don't envy anyone being up there in a storm.

PainPeas · 21/12/2023 12:29

Gutted to see BigJet isn't out there today!

cakeorwine · 21/12/2023 12:45

Some of those landings look bumpy

There's been some (delayed) departures from Leeds Bradford this morning but I'm not sure if anything has landed yet. The runway is northwest to southeast and the current wind is west northwestern, so not the usual south-westerly crosswind. 28 kts, gusting 41.

notimagain · 21/12/2023 13:05

Wind at Leeds airport in the 1220 UTC reports was 280 degrees true, 27 knots gusting 47....even though the runway is more northwesterly than other places (320'ish degrees) that wind is still potentially going to be close to crosswind limits in gusts for some aircraft types, especially if the runway becomes wet.

For the benefit of those that aren't aviation nerds I should point out that the runway state, as in dry/wet/slippery 😱is one of several variables that can change the allowable crosswind limits on the day.

Looks like RYR7HD Alicante to EMA is going round again! Feel sorry for the passengers.

RougeFraise · 21/12/2023 13:19

@Mummylovesmonkeys that’s a lot of holding!

littlepeas · 21/12/2023 13:40

I'm in the flight path for Birmingham and it's very windy here too. Think they must be approaching from a different direction as I don't think I have seen any planes today.
