Help me get rid of headlice by Saturday

5yo and myself have them. Possibly 8yo too.

I've been combing through with a conditioner and a Nitty Gritty comb every other day since I discovered them in the 5yo's hair about 2 weeks ago.

Treated us all (including myself, 11yo and DP) over the weekend just gone with Lyclear. Back to combing with conditioner every second day.

Today I've just combed some out of my hair. 5yo woke up scratching - again.

We have family gatherings from Saturday onwards and don't want to spread them.

Help.

You probably had unhatched eggs (left over from 2 weeks ago) when you treated with lyclear and they've now hatched. I'd give up on all chemicals and just wet comb (with conditioner) every single day until you're clear, then keep combing regularly. The nitty gritty comb is pretty good but remember you need to check and clean it as you go.

My daughter's hair used to reach her thighs - I got good at dealing with head lice!

Yes this. Just persevere.

We did a good week of conditioner / Nitty Gritty before treating. Albeit every other day.

I'm just sick of it. Both girls have long curly hair and it's so laborious. Oh well, we have a few days with no firm plans so de-licing it is 🙄

Is 5yo still at school or have they broken up?

We went through a period where we would get rid of then then DD would come home from school with a load of big fully grown ones and there was a kid who was not being treated that she was playing with. Treat straight after school on the last day, use one of the bit treatments that kill eggs too and after washing it out load up your hair with conditioner and really really comb it.

Then use the comb every other day for a week and that should get any stragglers.

After my girls had lice I bought a tea tree conditioner spray specifically for after treatment of lice. It's quite strong smelling and I spray their hair everyday with it before school. It repels lice and makes it an inhospitable environment for them. Has been working so far. It's called Australian bodycare

Can't you just put on one of the treatments that kills the eggs too? I know it makes the hair go disgusting and takes a few washes to get it back to normal but when me and my daughter caught them it was one application and done with - none of this combing with conditioner for days and days on end. I mean we did comb through afterwards to get rid of everything but they were all dead and didn't come back?? It just took only one application.

Get yourself on Amazon and get some Nitwits. Usually arrives next day. Best headlice treatment there is.

Nit Rid, it's really cheap in Home Bargains if you can get to one. Saturate hair with it, paying particular attention to warmer parts of the head, leave on overnight, comb through the next day, wash and then comb again (both combs with a nit comb. Repeat after a week. It's the only thing that worked on my dd and they'd pretty much gone after the first treatment with it. We had them for over a month as nothing else worked, I'd tried Hedrin, Lyclear, tea tree, straightening, oil and combing with conditioner. The Nit Rid is like an oily spray and it detached the eggs from the hair shaft but you do need to leave it overnight

Hedrin Once worked for us with Nitty Gritty every day for a few days afterwards
