Anyone claimed compensation from a car manufacturer due to fault?

In March the cam belt went on my car a few months ago unexpectidly and knackered the engine. It happened on the motorway at peak time and was a traumatic experience.

Dealship I bought it from.said it had gone too soon (AA man also said same) they spoke with manufacturer who agreed to replace the engine free of charge.

They had my car for nearly 3 weeks.

As it was due a service they did this at the same time as doing the new engine but certain parts I had to pay extra for
which equated to £400. I also had no choice but to hire a car from them which I had to pay for ... manufacturer wouldnt cover this. £20 a day...for 2.5 weeks!!!!! I played hell and they agreed to drop it to £10 per day. It all left a bad taste and annoyed me immensley, the inconvenience was frustrating aa I was caring for a dying elderly parent at the time so a car was essential.

So today I get a call to say a part has been recalled on my model of car. It needs replacing all free of charge. Guess what the cam belt!!!!!

So obviously there's a manufacturing problem as per the recall.

Well, I suppose you could try. But it will cost you an awful lot front in legal fees. Perhaps chalk this one up. Sell the car and move on?

I'm guessing Citroen or Peugeot? For the loan car I'd say you have no claim, you wouldn't get a free loan car usually for a recall. You've also been fortunate to get the work done before the recall so not had it sat for months at a dealer waiting for parts on back order with no due date, which is what happens when there is a serious safety recall.

I work at a small car supermarket, we had a steering rack die on an Evoque (one of the shoddiest cars ever for reliability) there was a recall on the steering rack a few weeks previous. Our car along with 21 others was sat at a dealer for months waiting for steering racks as they were dangerous to drive, parts on back order. Eventually got sorted, in the meantime the car lost a ton of money and we lost £2500 when it was sold. Absolutely nothing we could do.

However the additional parts which you had to pay for, I think you should try to claim this. If the recall work had been done before the cam belt failed they wouldn't have been required I'm guessing? I think it's worth a try.
