I would like a cheap phone for my child.
Don't want iPhone.
Would like smartphone as just want wotsapp.
But just looking for cheap one with perhaps a pay as you go SIM maybe?
Do not want to spend a lot at all on phone or SIM ideally.
Does this exist?
I'm not very good in the world of phones. I just get up updated version of my same phone when I get a new one!!

I have a Motorola e13 which is currently selling for £70. I then use Giff Gaff's cheapest package which I think is £6 a month. The phone is noticeably slower than things I've had before but it works.

I have a £8 unlimited texts and calls sim with Smarty. I bought a cheap Samsung smart phone a year ago, about £100.

Oh gosh I was hoping the phones might be cheaper than this 🤣

An alcatel one off amazon was about £50-60 a few months ago and a pay as you go sim called 1p mobile (£10 for 120 days/4 months). I researched it all recently as just wanted cheapest smartphone to replace 10 year old one when bluelight card went digital and to link to asda rewards as old one couldnt manage the app. I mostly use it for whatsapp linked to WiFi so never use up the allowance as calls are only 1p per minute but was definitely cheapest on the market.

Thank you this is really really helpful I will definitely look into all these options.

Just make sure that whatever you buy will still work after the 3G network is switched off in the UK, if you want the phone to last more than a couple of years.
EE, BT, Vodafone and 3 are all switching their 3G off next year, O2 in 2025.

Ideally you want a phone that can access 4G for both data and voice, otherwise there's only 2G to use (fine for calls and text, pretty useless for data)
And the 3 network doesn't have any 2G, so bear that in mind - a non-4G phone will be useless on the 3 network after they switch off their 3G.
