Board game for 7 and 2 year old

Looking for a board game we can play with DD (7) and ds (2.5). He knows colours but not numbers (up to 4 maybe but that might just be wishful thinking...) And he isn't brilliant at turn taking....

Other toy suggestions are very welcome as well as long as they can play them together. E.g. Duplo is a firm favourite with both of them but we've got all kinds of blocks so don't won't to get more.

I've ordered Pop up Pirates for my 6 and 2 year olds.

Windthebloodybobbinup · 20/12/2023 16:38

I've ordered this as it should be accessible to lots of ages

Have you tried Dobble? I know a 3 year old who can cope with that.

Yes we have dobble and we all love it, ie dh, me and dd. Ds just grabs the cards from the stack...

This looks like so much fun but ds is too young for it. Small magnets might be a bit too risky to be handled by a 2 year old...

I've ordered Pop up Pirates for my 6 and 2 year olds.

It looks good. Let me know how the kids like it, please.

Blockus is a good game that is simply patterns and shapes so zero reading or numbers. Needs 4 players to work properly, 2.5 is still very young so this might be a hard task, but fingers crossed you find a good game!

Orchard toys games are good. With that age range you’d need the 7 year old to play something a little easier than they can manage. But mine were all happy to. Red dog blue dog, pizza pizza and bus stop have always been popular. Penguin trap (not orchard toys) is also fun. My youngest (now 4) has always loved games but at 2.5 I don’t think we did much more than red dog blue dog.

Kersplat is a great one. Also too many monkeys. Can also play follow the Jack with a normal pack of cards.

Not really a board game but we loved Red Dog, Blue Dog by orchard games when ours were little.

We still take it on holiday and they're 9&7.

Pop up pirates
Don't step in it

Pop up Pirate, Buckaroo... anything like that is a good shout, or Hungry Hippos or the many rip off versions (I have the Cheaparse Slightly Peckish Frogs version). Or lots of the Orchard Toys (Tesco have a good selection - they did have a 4 in one set in their reduced bit recently that I bought for my nephew) are quite accessible at that age.

Kerplunk is good but a pain in the fucking arse to set up as well.

Playmobil 1-2-3 range would be a possible if you're wanting to avoid Duplo and the like.

PriviOnALedge · 21/12/2023 10:52

The 7 year old is very accommodating. She wouldn't mind playing a simple game once In a while to include her brother. She hates it though if he doesn't stick to the rules or waits his turn. Or runs away with the cards. Or eats them... Maybe I am expecting too much

I'll look at the orchard games. Thanks very much for all the suggestions.

I used to love Playmobil as a child but we've got so many Duplo, Lego and random figures that I'm reluctant to get something similar. Though I guess you can never have enough Duplo. It's the one thing that all three of us absolutely love. I've just bought another big box of assorted duplo compatible blocks. I dread the day that DD will grow out of it...

My youngest loves kinetic sand which is not messy. And his older siblings often end up playing with it too.

flowerssss · 21/12/2023 14:30

Hungryhippos

flowerssss · 21/12/2023 15:05

Popup Pirates is also fun

Jules912 · 21/12/2023 15:37

Pop up pirate is the only one that worked when DD was that young. At about 3 Orchard toys ones were ok in that she could understand them, but she wouldn't play with her brother ( then 6) as unless it was purely chance based he always won.

anotherlevel · 21/12/2023 16:06

How about twister would this be too old?

Loopyloooooo · 21/12/2023 17:02

Crocodile dentist? If that's still a thing. Not long to wait between turns, fund for the 7 year old and no little pieces.

Alalalalalongalalalalalonglonglilong · 21/12/2023 17:18

Funny bunny. Cute bunnies fall down holes that open randomly. At worst he can play with the little rabbits.

ThinkingAgainAndAgain · 21/12/2023 17:19

Kerplunk

Outwiththenorm · 21/12/2023 18:06

The sneaky snacky squirrel game
