Anyone else feel depressed that they will never own a property?

I feel like we are even getting priced out of rental properties. Currently trapped in a very expensive rental that had multiple issues including damp etc.

I'm in a council flat so luckily not having to pay extortionate rents. Yes I do feel bitter sometimes that shit life circumstances led me to being in a financial position that means I won't own property, but those circumstances did propel me to the top of the housing list and the home I've ended up in is in a nicer location than most of my working peers can afford to buy in.

No. It is what it is, this is what life has dealt me. I'm in social housing though, so in a better position that private rent.

I do feel sorry for people in private rentals as rents are becoming unaffordable. the government seriously need to address the problem.

I'm in a similar position as you OP, albeit the damp problem isn't too bad and the flat's actually quite nice. But the rent has gone up 300 quid a month since I moved in 5 years ago and in 12 months time I think I may have to move away from the South East completely. I just can't afford it now. I feel sad as I am on my own in my 50s and I have never been able to feel settled or safe, never had a garden or a pet. I've always had to struggle. I fear for my retirement, if I ever retire. I'm always scared of becoming homeless.

Mind you, people with mortgage rises are probably feeling the same fears at the moment. I feel sympathy for everyone.

We were in the same position for years. We only managed to buy a house a couple of years ago when I was 42. BUT we had to move 150 miles away to an absolute shithole (dh is originally from here, so we knew what we were getting into) to be able to afford one at all, and it’s been a complete money pit as we could only afford a doer upper.

On one hand, we now have security after several landlords selling up on us and then being priced out of the south east.

On the other, we’ve had our car nicked off he drive twice and next door are drug dealers.
