Have you tried a rockit? I’ve got acquaintances who found one very useful and saw one in use on holiday. It apparently mimics walking in the pram.

also try a sling/carrier. At least during the day it might help.

speak to your midwife/health visitor/gp.

Co sleep . worked great for me but i was ebf.

Airyfairy99 · 20/12/2023 02:00

No way resort to medicating. Newborns dont sleep for long stretches like us so its a big adjustment. Babies need to feel safe and secure and co sleeping worked fab and ensured i was rested as well as babies. Do NOT give medication unless for correct reason

I had one of these, turns out she didn’t sleep because she was hungry, even after two boobs. She started sleeping at night finally after I had cluster fed her for hours for about a week every night and had to top up with formula as well. Then I did quite excessive feeding day time too, which slowly helped. Would she eat if offered now? Babies that age can need ridiculous amounts even you’ve just fed them. If growth spurt is the problem, at least it’ll pass after a week or two.

I have thought about rocketit but at £40 it's expensive if it don't work I can't co sleep I just can't fall asleep worried I will roll on her or something bad will happen and as my midwife says at dont Co sleep as to many risks she don't like to eat in the day refuses and spits out she definitely cluster feeds at night some one has said to me to replace her night bottles with water and then she will start to eat in the day but I don't think that's a good idea I have the drs tomorrow so will be talking to them then :) from one exhausted mum never thought the no sleep would be this bad

Could you rent a Snoo for a few weeks and see if it helps?

SunRainStorm · 20/12/2023 10:10

No sleep is torture.

You shouldn't give water at 6 weeks.

I think you need a survival plan, it sounds like Bubs still has some day night confusion, which will end soon, I promise.

Do you have a partner? Could he or she do a shift until midnight? Enabling you to go to bed at 8 and get at least 4 straight hours. And then they can take over any wake ups after 6?

Then they get at least (but likely more than) 6 hours straight, and you get 4 hours straight at the start of the night and then even if you have an absolute bitch of a night, you can get a quick nap in in the morning.

For day night confusion, get them out during the day. Treat night feeds differently to day feeds.

I don't really talk to my baby at night, I get them up, feed them, change them and put them back I the cot. I turn on as few lights as possible.

During the day I chat, sing, get them dressed, open the curtains etc. make a clear delineation between night and day.

Good luck hang in there

My partner works a hard job so goes to work he trys let me sleep 3 hours a day as he's working all the hours to make up for my loss of wages but I'm used to sleeping about 11 hours as I'm anemic so constantly tired any ways I am doing the night time things no talking putting her straight bk into moses basket I've been looking into getting a night nanny but I just can't afford it everyone said when she come along they would help but now she's here they all busy My partner said he would go on maternity so I stayed working just didn't think it be this hard and now he can't do maternity

I completely get you on this. My 8 week old has been unable to fall asleep in the day since 2 weeks old and just screams from mid-afternoon til 1-2am. She's still awake now trying to settle after a feed, but she did have her first injections yesterday morning. I wish I could tell you X is what worked for me but I'm still none the wiser ☹️ I usually have to put her in a sling in the daytime just to get housework done. I also have a 2 year old at home in the day so I can't sneak off for a nap if she doesn't go off til really late. It's so tough but it won't last forever (I hope!!)

PeopleAreWeird · 21/12/2023 02:31

Do not medicate your baby

Do not give water to your 6 week old baby

Is she not feeding at all in the day?
Can you bottle feed and start a more structured routine?
She needs milk during the day

LaurieStrode · 21/12/2023 02:43

Try formula. I bet she is hungry. There's no superiority in breastfeeding if it's ruining your health and routine.

Gemzfefsrjkfgn · 21/12/2023 04:14

I have been told by midwife and health visitor boiled water then cooled Is fine for baby if she is cluster feeding milk at night so she isn't drinking to much milk all at once and she is formula feed as my milk never came in even thou I tried breastfeeding and pumping for 10 days she just kept losing weight so they were worried and was told to formula feed they think it might have had to do with me having a c setion she eats in the day but not a lot she refuses it and if she spits it out can't force her and midwife thinks that's y she cluster feeds at night I obviously don't want to medicate her but lots of older people that said back in the day mediset helped get there kids into a routine and if there was anything like that about it helped alot so was just wondering

Gina Ford works but isn't popular on here.

Medised was banned ages ago & now I can see why if people were using it to knock kids out for the night! It was a godsend when mine were teething but it wasn't something to use regularly as a way of getting them to sleep.

Amberandgrey · 21/12/2023 08:39

Oh, mine was like this from about 7 weeks to 11 ish, then slowly got better. She’s fairly easy now (although was ready to return her last night.) It is miserable. I spent a lot of time walking up and down with her in my arms.

anonqrtb · 21/12/2023 09:17

The only way i could get my DD to sleep was by purchasing a nursing pillow (got mine for £10 from ASDA) placing it on my legs with her tucked in and rocking my legs form side to side

Id get myself comfy (duvet over my legs but underneath her/the pillow) and nestle myself into the corner of the sofa with my legs out on the foot stool - then when she was asleep i would fall asleep sat up as i know there was nowhere either me or her could fall.

I've recommended it to every parent i've met since as it was the only way i could get sleep - plus i didnt have to move her once she was asleep so she would usually stay asleep for a good chunk of time.

Wish you all the luck though - i remember how hard this stage was but i promise it does pass!

Himawarigirl · 21/12/2023 09:22

My eldest was like this. In the day she needed movement to nap, so in the baby carrier and one of us walking or in the carrier and bouncing on a yoga/birthing ball so we could at least sit down. But at night co sleeping was the only thing that got us any sleep in the early weeks. It wasn’t my preference but it got us through as we phased it out around four months. But she didn’t accept a pushchair or naps at home until around 4 months. And if we were out they always needed constant movement or she woke up. It’s exhausting to have a baby like that but they do get through it.
