Tell me some nice things, it's the shortest day tomorrow (Thursday) and everyone is sad.

It's the shortest day tomorrow and I'm really hoping that everyone will cheer the fuck up soon.

It's too dark and grey, and the day is far too short, the youth group that I am involved is all falling out with each other, Elf didn't record properly and I've come on here for a bit of light relief, and not one happy thread in the first 4 refreshes of the 'trending' box, come on people, someone must have some happy/funny news and views?

Please tell me some nice things.

I know I’m ridiculous but, the BBC weather page says that from about 5th Jan, Sunset is a minute a day later. It will be light at 5pm by 14th Feb and by about the 3rd week in Jan, the supermarkets will have those cheap and cheerful bunches of daffs on sale. We are way closer to spring 24 than we realise.
Oh and Junior Bake Off starts on the 2nd Jan and CTM must be on soon too.

I don’t think you are ridiculous, I count the days until it’s light at 5, and those £1 bunches of daffs are a pleasure I look forward to every single year. Through Jan I notice it getting a bit lighter at 5 each week that passes. I know it’s still cold in Feb and March but lighter makes such a massive difference. And the spring flowers starting to appear. ❤️

I agrée with others - from Friday the days will get longer!

From a purely selfish POV I have finished all my pre-Christmas appointments and present buying. Just the food shopping to do. Tomorrow we are decorating the tree!

We've had a lot of rain this autumn so was very happy that yesterday we were in a patch of sunlight both above and below the cloud. Pic attachedM There are several towns hidden in the 'cauldron' at the bottom. And the mountains at the top are the Alps. I'm very lucky to live where I do.

On the downside it's not impossible I may be coming down with Covid. Suddenly feel shivery and have a dry cough. My fault for going to a Christmas party on Sunday, though nobody visibly unwell.

I don't mind winter (although this wet grey one is getting on my nerves) but I love it when the first daffs arrive. I have them in the flat every week until the shops stop stocking them. Then there's the day in February whe you come out of work and it's not quite dark...😊

The bulbs I planted are peeking through and seem to have put a bit of a spurt on this week.

Happy Winter Solstice, a time for reflection of what has passed and celebration of what's to come.
I love it. I have candles burning most of the day, plenty of hot drinks and sweet treats.
Bring beautiful bouquets of holly and other evergreen berries plants in from the garden,.tie festive ribbon around the vases, feed the birds, go for a walk through the woods and along the riverbank, celebrate nature in all its glory. The shortest day can still be a lovely day.

I saw two separate pairs of magpies, miles apart in the same day! Good things must be coming!!
