Blyth-buying a house, does anyone know the area/surrounding areas?

For various reasons I'm considering moving there from Lancashire.

I've only heard bad things about the area so far in terms of high crime rates etc. I'm sure it isn't all bad however.. I know the beach is beautiful too.

What I am afraid of is depreciation but a friend who has family there has assured me it is getting an overhaul, new shopping centre, transport improvement etc so perhaps I am worrying unduly?

House prices are low, but I don't want to buy a house that depreciates in value obviously.

I'm assured this is unlikely but I'm trying to be as careful as can be.

Does anyone know the area well or can point me in the right direction of where I may be able to expand my knowledge?

Shamelessly bumping.
I am looking inthe NE24 area mainly.
I don't have a high budget-not sure exactly what I do have however, waiting broker getting back to me.

Hi,
I don't live far from Blyth. Lots of changes over the past few years. All positive! Train station is being reinstated, there's shops, cafes and a bistro near the beach and lots of new housing developments.
It's highly unlikely you'll buy somewhere that would depreciate, if anything, the opposite will be true!
Yes, there are a few areas to avoid (Cowpen and Newsham spring to mind) but there are some fabulous houses in South Beach and Ridley Park area depending on budget.
The surrounding areas of Seaton Delaval, Seaton Sluice (coastal) are also worth a look as is Cramlington which is a couple of miles in land.
I'd happily live in Blyth. I perhaps wouldn't have said that 5 years ago but it's on the up!
Good Luck with your search.

Thank you! Very helpful. I actually looked at a house last night on rollyway Gardens but that's Cowpen isn't it (is that pronounced 'Coo-Pen')?

I quite liked it. £119k for a 2 bed semi.
