What are your weird Christmas traditions?

Mine is that we must have food that's nothing to do with Christmas on Xmas Eve so we aren't bored of Christmas food by the day.

I'm sure it's not that unusual though and there's weirder out there.

Garfield on top of the Christmas tree.

Opening a present at Midnight on Christmas Eve. DC are too young to join in on this one but DH and I still do it 🎁

I love the idea of a fat happy Garfield sitting on a tree lol. We have nachos with all the accompaniments on Christmas Eve with spicy chicken and a big dessert, to be consumed whilst watching stand up comedy DVD bought from ASDA during the sales in November. Its a very serious tradition.

We always have takeaway pizza on Christmas Eve and leftovers for breakfast on Christmas Day.

This is the sort of thing I'm looking for. It's the standing up for me. Love it.

We never have a traditional Xmas dinner - none of us like it - but we do always have pigs in blanket for Xmas breakfast as we do like those.

We do The Christmas Pickle, it's an American thing, supposedly German, but not really! I started because we called out first child Pickle affectionately.

It's a blown glass pickle ornament, left out for Father Christmas to hang on the tree. The first person to find on it Christmas Day, gets an extra present, I found pickle print fabric and made wrapping cloths and it's usually some funny food item.

We try to play a full game of Maj Jong (minimum 16 hands). Rarely get a chance to actual complete it.

On Christmas Eve in the evening, we have a much-loved tradition of blindfolding the DCs, and pretending that the sleigh is coming to deliver them each a present which they can open that evening.

Everyone wears warm clothes in the garden: I make sure the DCs can't see, I spin them round and walk them somewhere so they don't know where they are, while DH sneaks upstairs. I tell the DCs to point to the sleigh bells when they hear them: DH shakes them from the attic window, from a bedroom window, and I operate some (with a piece of string) tied to a tree branch. They hear the sleigh landing (sound effect from my phone). In turn, I give them a carrot to hold and feed to the reindeer, biting some off myself. 😉Then they hear the bells again as the sleigh takes off. After a minute, we lead them back to near the house, take their blindfolds off, and they can use torches to hunt for their presents, which are easy to find. The older ones know this is pretend, but they all adore this game!

We have fish and chips and watch the Polar Express. Not very exciting, but it is compulsory. This year I suggested just eating something else and my 20 year old said no, it had to be fish and chips and the polar express, it's the law.

we always have meatballs and tagliatelle on xmas eve. i did it 2 years running then the third year the family said we ALWAYS have meatballs so it became so.

Not sure if it’s weird, but my Stepmum always used to have our presents in her and my dads bedroom with the fire on, so xmas morning we would all open them in there. Myself and my brothers and sisters would love to put all the wrapping paper on the bed all over my dad. It stopped as we have gotten older but she does still do it if I spend christmas there with my children and they very much also love throwing wrapping paper all over Nanny and Grandad.
