What’s your ideal hen do?

I’ve been invited to a number of hen do’s this year and only one of them I’ve actually wanted to go to. Of course I feel bad for not attending but when there’s a number of activities planned and none of them are for me, I’ve just decided not to waste so much money on something I won’t enjoy.

so, what’s your ideal hen do?

(for yourself or one you’d attend)

If I was the bride I would like to invite everyone around to mine for a takeaway and drinks followed by dancing and singing into hairbrushes etc.

I kicked my husband out, and everyone who had to travel stayed at mine. Pyjama party first night, activity the next afternoon, dinner and club the next evening. People only paid for what they came to.

It was in Birmingham, which was a revolt against being told by friends all over the country that they'd picked somewhere "easy for everyone to get to" only to drive hours from Birmingham, which is ACTUALLY easy for everyone to get to.

I'm particularly proud of my budgeting for my friend's do, because I planned it so that non attendees could actually be refunded right up to the last minute - nobody had to pay extra for drop outs.

DH and I did a combined Hen/Stag thing as we both have mates of opposite sex and neither of us liked the idea of a lads'/girls' night out and wanted to celebrate together.

We hired a canal boat, had a (non-mandatory and but with no expectation of what you would dress as by sex) 'Pirates & Showgirls' dress up theme. We asked for people to pay a small sum (under £20) towards boat hire and food, and it was BYOB. Cruised up and down Regents' Canal and had a great time. Did separate into 'my' side and DH's for after-party where we went to different things. Was cheap, accessible and fun.

Love the sound of a lot of these.

I've been to my ideal hen do (it wasn't mine). A group of close friends, plus bride's siblings, sisters in law and Mum. Drinks at her house, then walked about 20m up the road to her local pub, food there and 4 musicians were allowed in to play a couple of her favourite songs. Back to hers for long chats into the night. Hangover breakfast at the cafe next door and everyone went home.

I didn't have a hen do and I've never been to one. Not sure what I'd want if I was daft enough to get married again. Friends to invite might be a start 🤣. But the thought of boozy bars, L plates and inflatable willies gives me the horrors.
