What's your plans?

OP posts:
MinnieMountain · 18/12/2023 16:35

We might go swimming.

xogossipgirlxo · 18/12/2023 16:36

for Polish people it’s a big deal, so we always celebrate. We will be home with our baby, good food and just having nice time😊

43ontherocksporfavor · 18/12/2023 16:40

Preparing food for Christmas Day, lay the table etc. Have a big walk with the dog then have some drinks in evening, play games.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 18/12/2023 16:41

Last year I went for a swim. Might try again this year. Then we go for a walk in the afternoon before a movie and bed.

No drinking on Xmas eve and an early night, or in my experience you are too knackered to enjoy Xmas day.

kimchio · 18/12/2023 16:42

Hot chocolate.
Them carols at King's.
Making mincepies

Sartre · 18/12/2023 16:50

We’re away for a week in south Wales for Christmas this year which I’m very much looking forward to.

Planning on our usual Christmas Eve breakfast (Santa and snowman pancakes), baking Santa’s cookies and constructing a gingerbread house, watching the snowman, hopefully a walk on a nearby beach if it isn’t too wet and windy, maybe try to find some Christmas lights on the drive, play board games, we always have a big buffet for tea and we always have hot choc in the evening with a Christmas film then read the night before Christmas before the DC go to bed.

NoThatsBad · 18/12/2023 17:07

I love hearing everyone's annual traditions.

My DC are very young so we haven't established any as they don't really get Christmas yet.

My family are all arriving on 24th to stay for 3 nights. We will probably do an afternoon dog walk after they've arrived, maybe play some games, then a g&t or a pre-dinner cocktail. Dh is cooking a tasting menu with loads of little courses. Maybe more games after dinner.

travelmad · 18/12/2023 17:16

We have a bit of a tidying morning, then play some board games before heading to a local Christingle in the afternoon. Home briefly for party food dinner before heading out again to the local Salvation Army community carols in the car park. Back home for hot chocolates, showers and a (fairly) early night for the kids. Then the Baileys gets opened and I wrap the end of the presents!

Eyesopenwideawake · 18/12/2023 17:18

My DP makes duck a la orange. It takes a while and requires the use of every possible cooking utensil but tastes marvellous.

BigDahliaFan · 18/12/2023 17:20

DH's kids all grown up and off doing their own thing.

We go on a walk. Been meeting up with friends for a Christmas Eve walk and a couple of pints in the pub every year for about 15 years now. It's my favourite part of Christmas! It's very casual, there's a core 4 of us and various hangers on which changes every year. It's in the hills but only takes about 2 hours. The weather has to be proper dreadful for it to be cancelled.

ZittiEBuoni · 18/12/2023 17:23

Go to local cafe for mince pie and mulled wine
Make sausage rolls
Watch Carols from Kings
Have party food spread for dinner
Go to 2 local pubs, have a drink in each
TV/film
Midnight mass

(dc are adults)

reluctantbrit · 18/12/2023 17:33

German here so it's Christmas in the evening.

DD has her riding lesson late morning so I assume a lie-in and nice breakfast.

When we are back, small lunch, rest and a movie which is now a tradition in our house.

Tea and mince pies and around 6pm Santa comes and we do presents. Afterwards cold cuts and cheese with baguette (bought on the way to the stable I hope).

WinchSparkle80 · 18/12/2023 17:39

We always sort the fridge in the morning to ensure optimal space and everything is there.
We then go out for lunch and have a walk through town and sometimes head into Cathedral to light a candle.
Home to watch Elf and festive music and carols with fizz.

Special dinner and then Scrooged.

Somethingsnappy · 18/12/2023 18:47

We (family of 7 including my mum) will go for the children's crib service at the local church in the late afternoon. Then a walk around our small town to see the Christmas lights. Then home for a buffet style tea. We'll open a couple of presents listening to some carols, and then get the kids ready for bed, stockings hung up, Christmas story read to them. Then after the little ones are tucked in, DH and I will drink the booze left out for Father Christmas and watch a film or something. Love, love, love Christmas Eve.

Chardonnay73 · 18/12/2023 18:51

Prepping the food, final tidy, then meet neighbours at the village pub for a drink or 3 before the Carol Service in the church. Back home for a party food buffet and both Gavin & Stacey Xmas specials. Every Year. I think I like Xmas Eve more than the day itself!

Chilicabbage · 18/12/2023 18:56

As with some other's it's my Christmas so.
Sleep in, brunch on cake (imagine like panetonne), christmas movies and feet up, then schnitzel and potato salad for dinner, then drinks and board games. Most likely just DH and I this year so it will be Very chilled. No cleaning, let alone floor (don't want to sweep luck out!), no washing hanging to dry (bad luck!). So yes, very very chilled

kingofchaos · 18/12/2023 19:08

My sister and her family will be turning up at about 3.

We willl then be going to a friends annual Xmas eve BBQ.. yes outside and everything ( unless it's raining obvs).

Head home not too late for Xmas film and drinks.

Izit · 18/12/2023 19:10

When my children were young we had a nice quiet day at home. Party food, films, I got things ready for the following day, then baths and early night for the kids and takeaway & film for me & DH.

Now they’re teens, we go out. We went to carols at the Royal Albert Hall last year. This year we’re going to the theatre.

TheNonsensePotter · 18/12/2023 19:16

We have family coming over at lunchtime for sandwiches and mince pies. May try and squeeze a quick walk in beforehand if we can.
I have bought a little present for all the children and we'll probably have a Christmas film on. Adults can have a catch up.
Late afternoon DH and I are taking DC to village crib service.
Drive around the local villages to look at the Christmas lights and see if we can see Santa flying overhead (plane with red lights!)
Home for tea- always party food
Hot chocolate, watch The Snowman and bed
We always read Twas The Night Before Christmas and I always end up with a lump in my throat!
Then DH and will get the presents under the tree, watch a bit of TV and try to get an early night.
Whole day is just focused around tiring everyone out so no one is still awake past midnight 😁

momager1 · 18/12/2023 19:34

This will be our first christmas living abroad from our children and grandchildren. We are in the Dominican Republic and are having my husbands best friend and his wife and our two godchildren over on Christmas Eve to start a new tradition. They also live here so not visiting so they will leave after they help with the cleanup as they always insist on doing. I was just about to start a thread about my menu as my 14 year old goddaughter wants to come on the 23rd and sleep over and help me cook on xmas eve as her mother (love her to death) HATES cooking. They seriously eat out at least 6 dinners a week! My goddaughter has been learning to bake here with me, and now she wants to do a mexican food night! lol. OK whatever I am up for it! Off to start my "do you think this is enough food thread lol"

Dizzy82 · 18/12/2023 19:35

Visiting relatives in the day and then out in the evening for birthday meal and celebrations, my son turns 18 on xmas eve!

Josephinehetty · 18/12/2023 19:36

We used to do church, carols, drive around to look at lights. Now the children are grown, we go to a play then a meal. It’s lovely - the day before hosting.

StuntNun · 18/12/2023 19:37

My DCs are on a board game binge so I think it will be a marathon board game day. DH and I might pop out for a coffee if anywhere is open, for a little piece of calm before the storm.

ghostbusters · 18/12/2023 19:38

I'm working all day. I don't usually but this is our public holiday alternative so we don't have to do Boxing Day.

Having dinner at the local pub with family, including one of my siblings for the first time.

We don't usually do much on Christmas Eve other than try to prepare the veg for lunch on Christmas Day abs get the kids to bed as a decent hour.
