What do you do? I want and need to lose weight. I try so hard then slip up and struggle to get back on it.if you've successfully lost weight how have you managed slip ups?

Honestly, the best thing you can do is draw the line as soon as possible. Be brutally honest with yourself, do you really need to wait until Monday or January or next week? It’s so easy to slip up (and if it wasn’t, wouldn’t we all be thin?) and justify waiting to make a fresh start, but really in most situations you can draw the line much sooner.

that said, if you are slipping up often it may be that the lifestyle you are trying to live is just unattainable and unrealistic for you at the moment. You may prefer to add some leniency in and lose weight at a slower rate and prevent numerous slip ups.

If you have one slip up, don't then turn it into a 'failed' day. See the one episode as a blip and get back to it.

I think radical, strict diets don't help in the first place. If your new eating pattern is so far removed from your usual daily routine it'll be harder to maintain. Start with small, achievable targets then you're more likely to maintain them (e.g. skip that morning snack, eat 1 piece of fruit a day, use a smaller dinner plate, drink 1 glass of water instead of tea with sugar etc).

Thank you. Been doing OK but my daughter made homemade gingerbread and I binged on quite a bit of it!
Will get back on it.
Thank you

So just wait until you actually feel hungry to eat again.
Falling off wagon mindset is crap.

I had lost 60lbs this year, then December happened.

I will be re-losing I think 15lbs in January, because I have utterly lost track of what I am supposed to be doing. December is not the time I manage to exercise control.

You will find it far easier to begin in earnest in January, I'm already planning some batch cooking for the freezer etc

WhereDidYouLeaveIt · 17/12/2023 19:14

A life changing understanding for me was that I couldn't fall off the wagon if there was no wagon.

By no longer restricting myself, I've ended the cycle of binging then "being good" that I was stuck in for years.

If I eat more than I intended on an occasion, I just continue on with my day. It's been a huge shift in my thinking.

MooQuackNeigh · 17/12/2023 19:20

Here's the thing. How do you feel right now? Crap right? Maybe a bit sick if you ate enough? Hold onto that feeling and remember it next time.

I use a delay don't deny technique where If I'm tempted I record or save some of it. A portion gets frozen or the cake type gets saved to a list on my food. I'll tell myself I can have it later/after Christmas/when I've reached X goal. Often once you get over that momentary blip you will find you don't want it now.

I fast too, and it has had an interesting effect that if I DO fail and eat something off plan, it means I have less of the day to stuff my face as I skip breakfast. I do find that the earlier I start eating in the day the more I eat that day. Often I will have a snack for lunch and a decent dinner to avoid going to bed hungry.

A technique done people find helpful is to weigh daily and graph the result. Be wary of this as it suits some but not others, depends on your character.

I've just lost 2 stone and have been doing so well, this last week hasn't been good though, cheese and crackers and chocolate! I figured I'll just eat the unhealthy stuff when I want to, try and stick to watching calories at other times and pick it back up again after Christmas.

ShitIforgothelves · 18/12/2023 14:21

Thank you , all so helpful..
How long did it take you to lose 2 stone?
