Potential drink spiking

I went out yesterday with friends. We were drinking. However as I left to come home I was unable to walk or talk. My whole body was shaking, jaw was juddering. An ambulance was called and they suspect spiking. My friend was the same and her husband said it was like she was drugged she also couldn’t walk, eyes rolling back. Feel so awful today, shaking. Has anyone had any experience of this? Really frightening…. Please be kind.

What did the hospital say? Did they take blood for a test?

ANightingale · 17/12/2023 14:11

I would report it to the police, since you've got a medical opinion to confirm it from their point of view. I hope you recover soon.

Mrspopper · 17/12/2023 14:14

I have reported it online. Didn’t go to hospital as sats were ok and they couldn’t do much more than ambulance. They knew I was safe as husband came to get me.

It is very common unfortunately. I have a number of friend's whose dc have had their drinks spiked. In one case it was the barman who did it. You have to be so vigilant. In all cases it was cocktails in bars. A bottled drink, opened in front of you and never left unattended is safer.
DD went with friends to a wine bar. She sat next to a huge guy. They had one drink each and he was suddenly out cold. We think the drink was intended for her. I honestly think it would have killed her. The people who do this are evil.

It’s so scary

Who do you think spiked you op? And yes, what do the blood test results show. I just want to say, if it was one of your friends then it goes without saying, they're definitely not your friend and you should ditch whoever it was! Were you drinking with anyone else? Did anyone outside of your friendship group buy you drinks that night? Just tyring to work out who it was. If it was some randomer, you'll probably never see them again, but sorry this happened to you! How're you feeling now?

SutWytTi · 17/12/2023 14:21

New laws being discussed on the news today. It's a huge problem. I'm so sorry this happened to you, how frightening.

Please report to the police. And give yourself time to process the violation.

No idea how it happened or who. Busy London pub right before Christmas. My friend and I were alone then her husband and friends joined. I know them all really well. Wonder if it happened before they arrived then we were not alone anymore. Don’t know trying to piece it altogether x

Three of us shared a bottle of red wine. One was my friends husband. His friend has just said after we drank that we all went weird. Her husband doesn’t remember getting home either. The Wien was bought out to us opened. Those who didn’t drink it were ok. Slowly things are coming out but still don’t know why someone would do this.

That suggests it might have been done behind the bar.

Yes it does. I read about a case where a barman was paid to spike drinks. Shocking.

OhComeOnFFS · 17/12/2023 15:29

That's terrifying.

I can see how someone might target one particular person - like on a blind date - though that's so scary, but why would someone target a person who's with friends, or more than one person at a time?

Didydani · 17/12/2023 17:14

I don't want to sound pararoid by saying this but yes, I agree it is terrifying and this has reminded me to never accept drinks from a stranger! I don't drink a lot anyway, if I do its at home and it's also rare I go on a night out, but if I do in future I'll be making sure I buy my own. If it was done behind the op and it starting to sound like it was, then that's absolutely terrible. Makes no sense to me at all as to why you'd poison customers, risk prison etc, aside from an irrational dislike of someone. Hope you're feeling better x

Didydani · 17/12/2023 17:15

Behind the bar op*

Most likely in league with someone to target women for sexual assault - they might not have clocked that OP and her friend were in a mixed group.

Didydani · 17/12/2023 17:41

@ANightingale christ. It's a dark world we live in when people starting thinking like that, it really is. Poor op.

BiscuitsandPuffin · 17/12/2023 17:43

Surely it's more likely to be old-fashioned fake alcohol topped up with some shit like antifreeze if it was the whole bottle and you were all affected? Places buy cheap fake drinks on the black market at a fraction of the cost of the proper drinks. It's so common that Environmental Health regularly test the alcohol at licenced premises to check they're not doing it.

ANightingale · 17/12/2023 17:45

Does that happen with wine, though, @BiscuitsandPuffin ? I thought it was more high ABV products, i.e. spirits that were diluted in that way.
