Are my kids unusual in listening to this music?

Just wondering last night whether teenagers nowadays have their own pop music culture anymore. I was upstairs and my 12 year old was listening to Kate Bush - streaming the Red Shoes album which I remember having as a CD when I was about 22, he got into Kate via the re-release of Running Up That Hill last year - my 14 year old was downstairs listening to the Pogues and had been playing Eurhythmics songs earlier in the day. In a way it's great, and I remember being really into the Beatles and older David Bowie at their age, which predated me, but I'm just puzzled as to why they don't listen to contemporary stuff. Is it really so crap, or are they just slightly unusual?

DD9 loves AC/DC and Guns N' Roses - which as far as I can tell she found entirely by herself.

She also loves Parry Gripp which I'm really hoping she'll move on from soon.

I wonder if it's to do with the fact there's no TOTP or similar anymore. I find it very easy to avoid new music!

I do like some modern music but most of my playlist is from before I was born (1999).

@ALongHardWinter your granddaughter has excellent taste!

Yes,I like to think that my taste in music, and also her mum's,has influenced her!

The demise of TOTP has meant the end of the time-honoured tradition of ridiculing current pop music in front of your glowering children. It's such a shame.

AngelsWithSilverWings Love your user name! 'Precious' is one of my favourite DM songs.

@ALongHardWinter mine too. Such a beautiful song and that line resonates with me because of the pain my DD has gone through in her life through chronic illness and being abandoned by her birth mother shortly after birth.

"Angels with silver wings
Shouldn't know suffering
I wish I could take the pain for you"

Makes me cry every time I see them perform it live.
