I know this is probably a silly question but anyways!. Looking to book a cruise next year..a 3 day one from Southampton. Can my dd who will be 16 when we go have her own room or will she sleep in our room..if so I can't see where she would sleep. It's with cunard..I can't even see how to book 2 rooms! I know I can call them I just feel a bit stupid!

Watching with interest....I was recently looking at cruises and couldn't work this out either

SlipperyLizard · 16/12/2023 12:35

We went with P&O and the family rooms had a sofa bed or bunk beds for kids. It may be that there are no family rooms available for the dates you want.

We used a travel agent to book ours as trying to book direct was baffling!

She can sleep in your room on a sofabed. Or you can pay for toe rooms. There are usually interconnected cabins available too.

Depends on which cruise line and where it sails from. Uk cruise lines are stricter than US. US lines will normally state 16 is fine for their own room. P and O require them
to be 18. Suggest you book via a reputable agency and get them to contact the cruise line before you book

Not just me then. I have been o to cunard site direct. Put in 3 people and its selected me a room..but it's just got a double bed in! I am baffled!

Best to phone up and speak to a human.

There's probable a pullman bed in the double room.

NashvilleQueen · 16/12/2023 13:01

It's usual for there to be bunk beds and your steward will come each night and make up the bed and put it down again in the morning.

Bumply · 16/12/2023 13:25

Look up the cruise ship cabin type on google.
There's usually symbols that show what type of room and whether the extra beds are from a sofa bed (which can convert to single or bunk beds) or the type of beds that fold down from the ceiling. Beds that need converting will be done by your room steward.

To have a separate cabin would cost extra. You can get ones with an adjoining door so you can move between cabins without going out to the corridor. Check what age a child can be in a separate room. There may be restrictions that would mean at least one parent staying in the cabin with the child.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 16/12/2023 13:28

The beds come down from the ceiling in a lot of cabins.

Pigeonqueen · 16/12/2023 13:42

Depends on the cruise line and ship but generally cabins sleep up to 4 with two pull down beds or a sofa bed made up - you should ring and check before booking. The pull down beds can be very small and you need to have twin beds underneath.

If you book a second room, it’s likely that you’d be charged the same for each room: single supplement is often 100%. A travel agent might be your best bet here. I don’t know if we can make recommendations here, but I tend to use iglu, as they can often throw in free parking/gratuities/drinks.

FacingTheWall · 16/12/2023 14:48

Cunard have a sofa bed in the rooms designated for 3/4 people. The room steward makes it up in the evening when you go for dinner and then puts it away again during the day. It’s a lot cheaper than a second room! Phone them to book, they’re actually very efficient on the phone.

@hopeishere

“Or you can pay for toe rooms.”

Well, I’ve heard of paying extra for leg room on flights but this is a new one on me 😉
