Cheese help!

I've got approx 20 people coming over for drinks tonight. I'm going to do a cheeseboard for later in the evening and so far I have:

Shropshire blue
Brie
Cheddar
Wednesleydale and cranberries
Gouda

I am terrible for over buying and would hate to not have enough. Do I need more?

Sounds OK to me. And you can freeze any you don't use, we do and so far haven't noticed any difference with unfrozen

Peepshowcreepshow · 16/12/2023 12:25

Are they big pieces or the normal sized supermarket ones? If the latter (and your guests are likely to drink a lot) I'd say you need more plus some fruit.

Maybe a Red Leicester? Some people like goats cheese but I think those people are wrong, and they can smell up their own houses with that abomination

Dotcheck · 16/12/2023 12:27

PS aged Gouda is amazing

ThreeRingCircus · 16/12/2023 12:29

How big are the wedges of cheese? If standard supermarket size then I'd say you definitely need more. Plus plenty of crackers, chutney and grapes.

froomeonthebroom · 16/12/2023 12:33

Got loads of crackers and grapes, also some charcuterie to cut. They are slightly bigger than normal sized chunks I would say. Also got crisps and peanuts etc to put out.

Maybe some pate too?

titchy · 16/12/2023 12:48

I'd add a soft cream cheese, a couple of pates and some charcuterie. And hope no one is that hungry so I can eat the leftovers for the next week

furtivetussling · 16/12/2023 13:33

Silverskin onions and gherkins.

Red Leicester would look nice, or go for something fun like Babybels.

Milknosugarta · 16/12/2023 13:35

Gorgonzola. 😋

LizHoney · 16/12/2023 19:24

Goats cheese for a bit more variety

unvillage · 16/12/2023 20:45

Add a soft goat cheese or a Boursin for a bit of spreadability. Otherwise that sounds great, when can I come over?

Cocorico22 · 16/12/2023 20:59

Needs something semi soft like reblochon or doux de montagne, then you’re golden

TotteringByRosie · 16/12/2023 21:01

Five is the optimum number for a cheese board including a blue, a soft and a hard cheese. Your selection sounds lovely.

lovelychops · 16/12/2023 21:12

Do not put babybells on a cheese board!! Jeez.
Brie and grapes is a lovely combination.
Cheese and anything really. Jams, chutney crackers and fruit.
I'd have a strong blue cheese and not bother with red Leicester it's so bland.

TheTecknician · 16/12/2023 21:21

Belton Red Fox Red Leicester is a little pricey but it's got much more flavour than regular RL. Aldi used to sell a reasonably priced version - hopefully they still do.

I find a dry white wine or sparkling wine suits blue cheeses such as Shropshire, Stilton and Yorkshire Blue better than a red wine or port. Alternatively, a rich strong Porter or stout is suitable for blue cheese, especially in generous slices on top of hot buttered muffins.

bellac11 · 16/12/2023 21:25

I think Wensleydale and cranberries is a bit suspect, but then Im not keen

I think have a proper Wensleydale or better still Lancashire or Caerphilly and put a sheeps cheese in like Pecorino or Manchego

Red Leicester is nothing special but a Double Gloucester is.
