Home or away, is it okay and socially acceptable, or not?

Is this the 1950’s?

eandz13 · 15/12/2023 23:00

Eh? Why wouldn't it be ok?

ToBeOrNotToBee · 15/12/2023 23:00

I didn't know that money holds different value based on the sex of the person.

AltitudeCheck · 15/12/2023 23:02

Acceptable yes of course.... Enjoyable? Depends v much on the pub and time of day!

theduchessofspork · 15/12/2023 23:02

Yes of course it’s fine

I do it plenty (travel for work a lot, but also sometimes just cos)

ZebraD · 15/12/2023 23:03

I wouldn’t but each to their own…

MissBuffyAnneSummers · 15/12/2023 23:03

Yes of course it's fine

KThnxBye · 15/12/2023 23:04

Probably go in a pub on my own at least once a week.

Should I not do this?

suki1964 · 15/12/2023 23:04

Yes

Back in the 70's and early 80's not so. Women in bars without a male companion were frowned upon and some bars refused to serve single women

I remember late 70's saying to the lass who got the same bus home as me, fancy a quick one , let the busy busses by? She was mortified when she realised it was just us two women and I was going to go and order :)

Ive always gone into bars and restaurants alone, Mr S worked away from home for weeks at a time, I certainly wasnt going to sit at home . Now its common, esp now women have mobile phones so are always connected, have contact with friends and have something to read/listen to/watch - or however you use your mobile

PieAndLattes · 15/12/2023 23:11

Yes, absolutely, though I’d be more inclined to go to a cocktail/champagne type or bar, or a hotel bar, than a darts/snooker/spit and sawdust type of pub.

MumChp · 15/12/2023 23:12

Yes!

gocompare · 15/12/2023 23:12

Love it.

TodayForTomorrow · 15/12/2023 23:21

Depends on the pub to be honest, but in theory yes.

Missingmyusername · 15/12/2023 23:22

I have done when travelling home after visiting friends. Be prepared for unwanted attention though.

icallitasplodge · 15/12/2023 23:23

I’ve done it a few times but always had a book and it was either lunch time or waiting for a train

WhateverMate · 15/12/2023 23:24

Acceptable to who?

Bubblesdublin · 15/12/2023 23:24

Why ever not.

ilovesooty · 15/12/2023 23:25

Why not?

SockQueen · 15/12/2023 23:28

I would go to one for a meal on my own, or to sit with a drink and a book while waiting for something/one. I don't think I'd go for an evening of drinking and socialising with strangers alone, but not sure if that's about my sex or my innate personality!

TastesLikeStrawberriesOnASummerEvening · 15/12/2023 23:31

I do if I'm away on my own and fancy a drink, I go to the theatre, restaurants, gigs etc on my own too.

HomburgandTrilby · 15/12/2023 23:31

Have you time-travelled? Or are you the kind of Mner who would die rather than go to the cinema alone?

cerisepanther73 · 15/12/2023 23:38

@Symbolthimble
It depends what kind of pub 🤔 it is and the type of regulars it acctracts,

give an example if it was weatherspoons style of chain of pubs resturants mix of families and single people , and ones with friends ect,

then their is the type of bar place venue @PieAndLattes mentioned her post,
Good sound insightful advice for single woman like yourself wondering which pubs establishments are better ect,

I agree also with @Missingmyusername

i have experienced unwanted misogynistic Prick "othering" nasty unpleasant behaviour ,
at a local pub traditional "spit and dust" type of one,
the rd from myself with my friend,

ask people too what kind of reputation does this pub have ect?
if its a new pub you are going too ?

cerisepanther73 · 15/12/2023 23:39

Typo omission word down*

I think it's because pubs are now also restaurants it's become more acceptable for women to be on their own in pubs . I remember back in the early 1970s in our local pub a young hippy woman walked into the bar and downed a pint and walked out again, probably for a dare . Back then women alone didn't go in to the bar let alone drank pints. A ten year old me absolutely loved it and the big woo it caused .
