Gallstones

Posting for traffic.
I was diagnosed with gallstones last year. At first they gave me absolute shiney for about three months. I changed my diet and managed to get it under control. Because I didn't hav any major pain and it was infrequent I never had the surgery and was advised to do watch and wait approach. I was told if my condition didn't worsen then it was unlikely to cause me loads of problems. I haven't had a bad attack for over a year. I get the occasional niggle in my right side that goes round to my back and some localized tenderness, sometimes some indigestion and nausea but nothing major that has me keeled over. But I've been reading stuff and I'm panicking now that I should have had the surgery, even though the reason I didn't.opt for it is because.im.shot scared of being put to sleep and having complications. It puts the fear of God in me. Had anyone else got gallstones under watch and wait approach? No horror stories please, I just want to know if anyone has been able to manage them.

@AlltheJays23 - I'm sorry you have gallstones and are so worried about the operation. I have gallstones too and have been wondering whether I should have the op after reading about the issues some people have afterwards. But I had another attack last night and it made me realise I will have to go ahead with it. The attacks are awful, aren't they? I can't live like this.

From what I've read online, once the gallstones start causing problems, it's likely that you'll need the op in the end. Rosemary Conley managed to avoid surgery for five years by adopting a low-fat diet, but then opted for keyhole surgery.

There's a support thread for sufferers with gallstones on MN. I'll try and get a link.

Can't do a link, but I've bumped it for you. It's in Chat.

I missed the point of your post. Sorry, OP. I think if you haven't had any attacks for over a year, you're doing OK and made the right choice. No one wants unnecessary surgery. Of course, if you start having problems again, that's the time to consider surgery. Sounds to me like you made the right choice.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I don't hav really bad attacks anymore. Just a kind of niggle in my side and some tenderness. More like a grumble! I am starting to worry though that I should have had th surgery as I'm ecar d or getting bad attacks again.
