Annoying in this day and age

I got a new electric hand mixer recently. I'm left handed. The cable is on right hand side rather than central, meaning if you hold the mixer in your right hand it's out of the way iyswim. As a left hander I can't use it without the cable being pulled across anything I'm trying to mix. The plug socket is very close but these things never have long cables and I can't use my right hand instead as I just don't have the same control. In this day and age why are companies making such poorly thought through products? Ditto kettles where you can't see the water level if you're holding it in your left hand.

I've spent my life adapting to using things designed for right handers, but these two items are so annoying as I can't use them properly/effectively and it's the 21st century, you'd think that 10% of the population might be considered when designing items.

Can you hold it in your right hand and move the bowl with your left?

You should not have to, you are right it should be able to buy one that is designed for either hand.

I can't. There's no need to move the bowl, just hold it steady. I just don't have the same dexterity with my right hand. I'm sending it back and looking for one with a central cable. The problem is so many of the adverts online, including on Amazon where it came from, actually don't show where the cable is!

I didn't think about the cable positioning when I picked this one out. Even more annoyingly, I had the exact same issue about 15 years ago when I bought the last one.

What a pain.

I'm right handed but have several left handers in the family.

My dad opens wine by holding the corkscrew still and turning the bottle.

Have you considered a cordless mixer? Although I bet the buttons are placed for a right hander.

This one says it has a 'flexible cord sleeve' but annoyingly doesn't show it in the demo vid.
