Hives on face - what do I do? Going on holiday

Sod’s Law I have reacted to something a few days before my holiday. Usually something to do with dust.
I contacted the doctors on Tuesday who have prescribed me Fexafenadine. However it doesn’t seem to be doing anything. I may have become resistant to it as I always take this when I have had any before.
Is there anything I can do? Any mumsnetters suggest anything else?
I have done another doctors consultation so waiting to hear from them.

If I wasn’t going on holiday, I would just wait it out ☹️

Could you try Piriton? It cause drowsiness but is good for allergies.

Caspianberg · 15/12/2023 09:38

Can you take another antihistamine?

Is it worth taking another antihistamine when Fexafenadine is stronger and on prescription?

I have taken over the counter antihistamine before which did nothing hence why always ended up at the doctors

Try a hydrocortisone cream as well as an antihistamine

Mamma1982 · 15/12/2023 10:26

I took 2 the other day after I came up with hives all over my body. It went within a few hours. Taking one just didn't cut it.

I asked the pharmacy for some over the counter cream but she advised not putting any hydrocortisone cream on the face especially near the eye area.

I am abit afraid to take 2 Fexafenadine tablets at 180mg each?

I find cetirizine much better than Fexo.

Creams are unlikely to help, best thing is to not put anything on your face at all.

I get facial hives with hayfever and it is horrible, so sympathies 💐

Caspianberg · 15/12/2023 11:14

Can you use a lower dose over the counter hayfever tablet as well? I would just ask pharmacy

My Ds has nut allergy and he gets various things from over the counter low dose, then suppository high dose, then has Epipen if needed. So often over the counter is also helpful

Also la rosy cream.

Mamma1982 · 15/12/2023 12:10

OP I took Fexofenadine x 2 180mg tablets and it cleared up within a couple of hours. Mine was unbearably itchy all over my body. It worked for me but you have to do whatever you are comfortable with.

idontlikealdi · 15/12/2023 12:12

I've taken two fexo and also used HC on my face, just a tiny bit and don't get it in your eye

cezannesapple · 15/12/2023 12:18

I've always been told not to double up with different antihistimines. I find Piriton much better than Fexofenidine for that type of allergic reaction. Speak to your pharmacist for advice though.

KinderEggg · 15/12/2023 12:23

Okay so I’ve taken one dose of Fexa 180mg and one Cetrizine
See what happens.
Still waiting for the doctor to get back to me.

So I’ve been prescribed Hydrocortisone for my face as I am going on holiday otherwise they would have just seen me in person next week
i am really worried about putting this on my face 😭.

NorthernLiner · 15/12/2023 14:30

Oh @KinderEggg that looks so sore! Don’t worry about putting the HC on your face, just take extra care to keep clear of your eyes, you only need a very thin layer.
Hope you feel better soon, and have a lovely holiday!

GMsAWinner · 15/12/2023 14:56

The GP told me not to worry about putting hydrocortisone on DD's face when she was around three, so must be ok for adults! Hope it's better soon - I've had it before all over, so no joke.
