Brussels Sprouts

Is my kid an anomaly?
They had Christmas dinner at school yesterday, and DC told me on the way home - “Everyone gave me their Brussels sprouts because they don’t like them!”

Does your DC(s) like them?
Do you like them?!

I adore them, my husband dislikes them.

Three children, eldest loves them, Middle disposes them and the youngest likes them.

I have never tasted a BS in over fifty years and i'm not starting now! The smell of them cooking has always put me off them. They seem to be a very divisive vegetable.

I also loathe parsnips.

Love them and always have. There is actually a genetic element to loving or hating the taste, which might explain the love/hate for the vegetable.

I've always loved them and eat them all year round. DH will only eat them raw.

Plain boiled is lovely (not too soft) but they're particularly delicious halved and pan-fried with smoked lardons and cream 😋

Roasted with chorizo or lardons and garlic delicious, or finely sliced in a stir fry.

Boiled mush no thanks.

Yes, my son likes them!

And he isn't an enthusiastic veg eater.

Whereas I am, but I don't like sprouts. I have tried, even eating them raw as there are a lot of veg I like raw but not cooked (eg cauliflower) but I don't like them, although at a work Christmas dinner last week they were tiny ones so I ate them. But I wouldn't choose to have them.

Liking sprouts is genetic. A particular gene makes them taste different in some way.

Me and my kids have always loved them.

Yes I’ve heard this. A particular gene affects how bitter they taste to you.

Same with coriander (same principle, not same gene). It tastes soapy to some people apparently.

I love them. Daughter used to eat them until she was 2.

Rosecoffeecup · 14/12/2023 09:32

My fave vegetable

dontgobaconmyheart · 14/12/2023 09:45

Most of us like them here. I don't get the fuss about them that some people make. They just taste like.. vegetables, as most vegetables do. I never see them as something particularly out there. We eat them throughout the year.

Iateallllllthepies · 14/12/2023 09:51

My 3 year old had a bowl for breakfast. She loves them.

I eat them most days. Roasted in lots of crushed garlic and coconut oil with broccoli and cauliflower.

I can’t stand them just boiled though. I think that’s were a lot of people go wrong.

SharonEllis · 14/12/2023 09:55

Yep we all love them. We try to buy them on the 'tree' as they keep fresher.

JanuaryBauble · 14/12/2023 09:55

Mine do too. Hello fresh do a Brussels sprouts mac and cheese which is considered a winter highlight by the DC 🤣
