What on-the-go meals would you make?

DS currently goes swimming on a Tuesday and has been asked by friends to go to a karate class on the same day and the same venue. I’m ok about that and DS really wants to go. However it starts quite late so not a great deal of time for food when he gets home.

There would however be about an hour between the classes so I was thinking I could take a meal in a flask or something. Other than pasta, are there any good and filling meals that travel well?

Soup or casserole in a thermos

A 'cold dinner' - basically a packed lunch, sandwiches, crackers, cheese/cold meats etc. Salad bits, fruit etc. Even quiche or cold pizza.

That's all I can think of, other than pasta like you said. But it's only once a week so you don't need too many options!

We have a similar tight timing between activities and I do a packed tea (packed lunch basically with sandwich etc). They love it as never have sandwiches usually, however if your DC has packed lunch at school I can imagine this isn’t so great.

Lots of chunky soups/liquidy stews that will travel well in a wide neck thermos - minestrone, pearl barley, leek & potato, lentil and sausage, pea and bacon.

any type of stew or goulash type meal he likes- one with potatoes or dumplings in it, so it's all in the one flask, just eat it straight, soup with a roll, noodle or ramen based dishes travel well in good food flasks, i used to send one of mine with beans and sausages cut up in it in flask, meatballs in a tomato based sauce

A wrap with a hot filling like sausages or chicken nuggets (don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!) wrapped in foil

Tbh, most weeks I would go to a fast food place/local cafe/supermarket cafe.
Otherwise, as others have said, soup or sandwiches. Maybe noodles would work in a wide necked flask, or curry.

Minestrone or chilli/mini casserole with rice? But keep it small/light because although he will be hungry after swimming, u don't want a big/heavy meal before another exercise session.

My daughter hates school dinners and also sandwiches 🙄 so takes a thermos to school every day, usually with leftovers in reheated in the microwave. Jacket potato and cheese is good, as is chilli &rice/pasta/stir fry.

If there's nothing for leftovers she makes pesto pasta or rice and peas with ham in it. I bought some cans of 'big soup' which I love but she's not keen..

DD takes chicken & vegetable rice/egg friend rice, risotto, spag Bol and Mac cheese to school in a wide mouth flask.

I have a colleague who brings jacket potatoes in, in a short and wide flask.
