Captain Raymond Holt has died! A thread of his best lines

I'm absolutely gutted this morning to read the actor who played Raymond Holt on Brooklyn 99 has died. Of course he's played other roles but this for, for me, the iconic one!

I used to love all his barbs at Wuntch

I also love how despite being a comedy it does deal with issues like racism really well. Just an amazing show all round.

I also thought it dealt with neurodiversity quite well. I have ADHD and autism and could relate to a lot of it

I just watched the first episode this week and he was my favourite character from his opening scene. So although I don't have the same long relationship with the show as all of you, this news has upset me. Amazing comedy skills, much too young.

I am jealous of the all the 'first watch' episodes you have in front of you. You have all the Halloween heist ones to discover!

This is sad news. I was already planning to start watching all episodes again for my next binge. I hardly know anyone who watches it - very underrated series.

I also really loved the father/son dynamic that Jake had with him.

They wrapped that up so well in the last episode I think (but ended with a zing)

Captain Holt: Over the years, you've sometimes referred to me as something of a father figure.
Jake: Did I? I didn't realize that.
Captain Holt: But I want you to know if I had had a son and, uh, he had turned out like you, I would be very proud of him.

And rape/sexual assault. It did the most nuanced, sensitive, realistic treatment of the issue I've ever seen.

What a show. I remember Stephanie Diaz talking about auditioning for it, but then hearing Melissa Fumero had been cast and thinking there was no way she'd get it as shows never cast two Latinos... except they did.

This is awful news.

As others have said, that show was a kind of family glue.

I find the relationship between he (see what I did there) and Jake almost unbearably touching and I actually cried in the episode that @TheWetBandits just quoted.

He and Gina were my favourites. Very sad news.

She was such a strong female woman with nice heavy breasts. You know me. I see a pair of thick, weighty breasts, and all logic flies out the window.

He was by far the best character. He was soo good.

When they were doing some sneaky backdoor thing and he had to distract the post room guy with some SATC talk... brilliant.

But mostly it was all in the comic timing - every single thing he said was funny.

I didn't watch Homicide but apparently he was really good in that too.

Brooklyn 99 is one of those rare TV shows for all of the family. Really enjoyed it with my teens and pre-teen.
