Has a treat ever backfired?

I made my DD a hot chocolate for the first time earlier. She’s two. Made a big deal of getting out the velvitiser, pushing the button, marshmallows.

I tasted it. Not too hot. Not too sweet or rich.

She took a big swig and went quiet. I asked her if it was yummy and she projectile-spat it all over the floor, scowling and scraping her tongue.

I’ve just finished cleaning up my kitchen, and the child.

whilst I was getting out the swiffer, she put the sippy cup full of hot chocolate in the bin, shaking her head firmly. What a weirdo.

low level treats like my unwanted hot chocolate or absolute bombshells welcome.

I'm not sure what it is about hot chocolate. Only one of my kids like it, the others all hate it and won't go near it. I want them to like it because it's warm and cosy but they don't.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/12/2023 18:00

Mine have always hated hot chocolate.

Iateallllllthepies · 12/12/2023 18:07

Mine love the idea of hot chocolate, cream, marshmallows, the works but in reality, they don’t like it at all.

graciasinmorzine · 12/12/2023 18:15

Glad she isn’t the only one

she loves chocolate and has never had an extreme reaction to anything except (understandably) crab paste

so odd

Hot chocolate is not created equal. Some taste of chocolate dish water.

stayathomer · 12/12/2023 18:17

Most treats backfire around here!! Weirdly the things that end up going down the best are things we didn’t even think to make a big deal of!

At 2 she would have been better with warm milk with just a hint of chocolate... it is actually quite a strong sickly taste!

OhComeOnFFS · 12/12/2023 18:33

That reminds me of my ex-MIL when I first found out I was pregnant. She was so keen to build me up that she made me a hot chocolate with full fat Jersey milk, poured single cream into it and used squirty cream on top. I took one sip and vomited.

minou123 · 12/12/2023 18:46

I don't know if this is in keeping with the thread @graciasinmorzine , as its not about hot chocolate.

But, when i was a child, my mum used to treat me to an ice cream after every doctors appointment.
We used to move countries regularly and I had to have regular injections, vaccines, medication etc.
I hated it, so my mum used to bribe me with an ice cream after every doctors appointment, as a treat.

I've become a bit like Pavlov's dogs. I still have to have an ice cream after a GP appointment.
its backfired because I get a bit grumpy if I don't get an ice cream. 😂

You definitely didn’t put crab paste in the hot chocolate, did you?

Just thought of another one- my DH. More extreme than spat out hot choc.

I miscarried my first pregnancy, so when I was healing up from the surgery- he booked a massage for me to destress and relax because I was full of adrenaline and a nervous wreck. I didn’t want to leave the house so they came to me. It was a surprise. Lovely idea…?

i had a panic attack on the table, flashbacks to being on a hospital bed and shut myself in the bedroom, sobbing.

He was just trying to do a lovely thing. I don’t think he was anticipating that reaction bless him. Poor massage lady too.

DS is not a fan of the theatre. In order to make up for the covid baby & toddler years, and with the lofty ideals of starting him off with a deep love for the arts, I took him to the live versions of Hey Duggee, In the Night Garden, Bluey, pantomimes. Each time we’ve had to leave way before the end and I have spent the thick end of £500 in total.

Massive dose of sugar and caffeine. Maybe for the best that she wasn't keen.

MrsMitford3 · 13/12/2023 15:44

My DD always wanted to try one of those horrible brightly coloured slushie drinks they have at cinemas and when she finally was given one she drank about half and then projectile vomited all over Beconscot Model village. Yes it was fluorescent vomit 😩

It’s ok today she is only eating buckwheat and shiitake mushrooms to make up for yesterday’s massive UPF binge

@graciasinmorzine of course she has-she thought it might have been off and not the cause. But she was also sick the next time-just tidier sick.

She is in her 20's and now accepts they do not agree with her 😂

Caffeine??

MuggleMe · 13/12/2023 17:28

No drama but my 6yo doesn't like cake especially with icing . It's annoying when she's having a birthday party trying to balance what she'll want vs what the other children like/expect. To be clear not bragging, likes all other forms of sugary nutrient free 'food'.

That's not a " massive " dose of caffeine. Calm down.

You can just use the velvetiser to make really nice babycinos by just putting milk in and nothing else.

My kids hate hot chocolate too.
