Ridiculous earring related predicament. Who can help

I bought a pair of hoop earrings from TKMaxx. It took me a while to work out how the hinge worked but finally managed. They snapped shut with a proper click-and now I can't take them off. Lots of people have tried and failed. I love them-but eventually I will want to take them out. Who do I ask? Someone suggested minor injuries-but don't worry, I'm not doing that! Would a jeweller do it? Or would they be too worried about hurting me? Dp did try with pliers- but they are very small rings and there wasn't any room. Help!

Can you post a pic of the fastening?

merrymerrychristmasall · 12/12/2023 12:17

Could you use wire cutters to cut the bottom part of the hoop?

RockyRoadster · 12/12/2023 12:17

Have you asked TKMaxx?

Try asking a piercing studio?

A pic would def help.

Have you tried applying WD40, or oil or soap to the fastening?

doodlepants · 12/12/2023 12:27

I had this exact problem and I think I know
what kind of earrings you mean. I eventually got mine out after a few weeks and I think the key for me was that I was no longer panicking about it and had kind of accepted it! Can you see if you can find the same ones in TKMAXX and fiddle with them again to see how they work? Then try and apply the theory again with it fresh in your mind? It's not about force, it's about getting the right angle on them.

CurlewKate · 12/12/2023 12:48

I'll get someone to take a picture when they come home!

I don't think it's a WD 40 job- they're not stuck-they've just clicked shut the way they are supposed to! And there's no room for wire cutters, I don't think. Thank you all-more and nfoemation on the way!

That's a good idea @doodlepants! It'll mean leaving them in til next week, but I don't mind that!

A jeweller would help, or a piercer. Failing that, a brave moment with a guitar wire snipper or similar. Good luck!

Can you post a pic of the type of earrings? Doesn’t need to be as they are in your ears.

Try asking a piercing studio?

I second this, I think this is probably the safest option.

@CurlewKate I think this type of earring is called a huggie hoop. I've done a quick Google search on how to get them out and there are even videos. So it looks like you're not the only person having trouble. Good luck.

I had this with a pair of hoops too. One opened easily but the other got stuck in my ear. I've since learnt that I need to use my nail to hook into/ under the clasp as I lever it open. It's fine now I've got the hang of it.

I find squeeze and twist works - put your finger and thumb over the earring hole /hoop abs squeeze while slightly moving them in the opposite direction to each other
