Work are dropping like flies. I was sat in between 2 on Thurs that are now really rough with Covid.
I'm worried this will show its ugly head at Christmas!!

Some people just don’t get it or have minimal symptoms that are hardly noticeable.

MonsteraMama · 12/12/2023 10:14

It seems to be completely arbitrary whether you'll catch it or not, even when in close contact. My husband had it and we were still sharing a bed, kissing, cuddling etc and I didn't catch it, but my daughter did. When I had it, same thing. I was horribly rough with it, husband was nursing me and taking care of me, he didn't catch it from me and neither did daughter.

Hopefully if you do get it it'll be more like a cold for you!

Ihateboris · 12/12/2023 10:14

As far as I'm aware, I've not had covid, despite not having the jabs and being in close proximity to people who have it. Not even had a bad cold in the last few years. I'm probably tempting fate now!!..

Both DP and DS had it at separate times, I didn't avoid either and didn't catch it 🤷🏻‍♀️ as far as I'm aware I've never had, or I've at least not had the symptoms to check

ComtesseDeSpair · 12/12/2023 10:18

Think of all the times a stinking cold or a stomach bug has done the rounds of the office or school and some people avoided it. Covid is no different.

Neither DH nor I have ever had Covid, nor any similar symptoms. If we have had it, it’s been completely asymptomatic. The weekend before lockdown was announced we were in a nightclub. Virtually everyone we know who was also there caught it, we didn’t. During the first lockdown I was working with a large housing association and volunteered to go grocery shopping for our elderly residents: I was visiting up to ten different grocery shops a day most days to find stuff, no masks at this point, never caught it. Enthusiastically partook in Eat Out To Help Out, still nadda.

Yep, DS2.
Shared a room with DS1 the night before his positive test.
A year later, lived with me, the DH who got it from each other.

Also exposed several times at school.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 12/12/2023 10:23

My son has never caught it even though the rest of the family did.

Ostryga · 12/12/2023 10:24

I’ve never had it, exposed sooo many times. I’ve tested multiple times when ill and every week for 2 years in the height and never got it 🤷🏻‍♀️ haven’t had the jabs either!

dontgobaconmyheart · 12/12/2023 10:26

I've not had it that I know of and do have a compromised immune system and fairly poor health generally so do assume I would know about it.

I've currently got a cold or a virus of some sort (tested a few times for covid which has been negative) and am floored as I usually am. That sort of thing generally has me in bed for the best part of a week, lingers for another week after that and I'll often by then have acquired some sort of secondary infection and need antibiotics.

DP was a key worker throughout the pandemic so lots of exposure in that environment and has never tested positive, nor have I, and we did test near constantly because of my health and the need to isolate if he had it and so on.

I could have written this post, pretty much word for word!
DH and DD had it, but not me. I even had DD on my knee watching telly etc when she had it.

Then, a year later, I did but not them.

Other DD is teflon coated and has never been ill in her life. Without exaggeration.

SuperheroBirds · 12/12/2023 10:39

My husband and his Dad have both never had it. I’ve had Covid twice, and my husband never caught it from me or wherever I might have caught it from.

His Dad worked in a key worker role throughout covid, never caught it. He went on holiday with his wife, she came back with covid (she thinks from the flight) and he didn’t catch it on the flight or from her either.

Given it seems to be both of them, when everyone else I know has had it, I do wonder if there is a genetic component.

mindutopia · 12/12/2023 10:51

I have a friend who never got it until earlier this year, despite being in a public facing role working with children all throughout the pandemic. She/we all assumed she had some magic immunity. No, she just hadn't caught it, and was pretty miserable when she finally did (though vaccinated, so obviously fine in the end).

That said, first time dh got it was after his company Christmas do in 2021. He shared a taxi with 6 colleagues for about 1.5 hours. One of the guys tested positive 2 days later, dh tested positive the next day. None of the others, even ones who were sitting closer in the taxi did. So who knows. Even in our house, there's 4 of us, and only 2 have ever gotten it at once.

turkeyboots · 12/12/2023 10:57

If I had covid it was either so minor tests didn't pick it up, or that i had it before tests were available. I did have a nasty cold before the first lockdown though.

So you may escape yet.

LlynTegid · 12/12/2023 12:23

Almost everyone I work with has had it, and unless I have had it with no symptoms, I have not.

Toddlerteaplease · 12/12/2023 12:37

I've had it twice. But been exposed multiple times to it! I had immunotherapy a few tears ago for MS and it targeted B and T cells. So I think that's why I've never been to unwell with it.

HarrumphryBogart · 12/12/2023 12:49

I volunteered face to face with people throughout Covid and never caught it. Two of my children have had it twice, I didn't get it. Wednesday I took a test as my throat and nose felt fizzy, positive, I've been pretty ill since the day after.

I recently gave up smoking so my Covid lung receptors were ripe for it I think!
