If you own a home £700k +, what do you do?

Sheer noseyness is all this is!

We live in a 'nice area' - somewhere that homes typically sell 15 to 20% over the home report as standard. Between myself and my partner, we earn a decent amount, not well off or middle class by any means but bring in slightly over 100k between us.

Our home is worth 260k approx and although we would like something bigger, I don't see how we could afford anything else, any time soon.

It gets me thinking regularly, if we would struggle to buy a home even 50k more expensive, what kind of money must be ploughed in to these massive homes you see? I'm talking 5+ bedrooms and upward of 700k types.

If you live in a home like this, what is your household income and what type of job(s) do you have, if you don't mind sharing?

Depends where you are and when you purchased. I'm Greater London and my 4 bed is worth £650-700K. We bought it for a fraction of that 30 years ago and extended it quite a bit.

Work in healthcare. First flat bought for £80k. Sold it for £160 which was deposit for bigger house £250k then bought again £400k that was 11 years ago. Current value £750k and almost mortgage free now.

It's not so much about earnings and more about previous purchases and being in the right place at the right time.

But we do work hard...

We bought over 10 years ago. House was £400k then but would probably go for £800k now. It's a 5 bed semi in zone 4.

We'd sold our previous house and made £100k profit so that went in as the deposit. No way could we afford this house now. We now earn £130k between us - back when we bought it was more like £80k.

It's definitely due to buying early and being lucky with house price inflation. Our first flat was under £50k.

Our house is worth about a million. I earn 50k and DH earns about 20k. 800k in equity. We both bought in London in the 90's and have bought, renovated and sold several times to get to where we are now. Will sell this house and downsize when we retire. Very fortunate to have bought in London when property was cheap.
