What books are your 11 year olds reading?

DS recently finished the HP series and I'm at a loss as to what to get him next.

He said he'd like to read similar to the HP genre, e.g. fantasy/magic/mythical animals etc.

I've looked at Terry Pratchett but there's so many to choose from and conflicting advice on where to start.

Nothing has been jumping out at me on where to go next. Any ideas?

I'd start with the Bromeliad trilogy for Pratchett.

How about His Dark Materials? Or The Hobbit?

My 11 year old is loving the percy Jackson series, about a normal boy who finds out he's a half god and goes on lots of adventures. It's led to quite the interest in Greek mythology. There are several other series by the same author as well such as heroes of Olympus.
They have made a disney tv series of percy Jackson that's out soon, as years ago they made the first book into a film.
Terry pratchett is great . You don't need to read them in any order really.

Artimus Fowl or with Pratchett books - you could go with wee free men. It's a disk world book but aimed at younger readers.

Sorry but I hate the writing in his books. Very poor. I'm pleased DD is over that phase. I get that they are good for getting kids to read but sadly they aren't an example of high quality writing.

Or you could try who let the gods out series or Loki a bad god guide to being good. Anything by Tom fletcher, danger gang is our favourite but Christmasaurus and space band are brilliant too.

Can anyone recommend some that have a strong female protagonist in them? I have a granddaughter around that age who loves to read.

The School of Good and Evil
The Murder most unladylike series

Both of those have central strong female protagonists.
For non-fiction try Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girl, pages of stories about strong and influential females from history

Pratchett wee free men series, the main character is Tiffany and there are multiple strong women in it. Might be a bit young but rainbow great books are nice too.

He's read a few David Walliams. His grandparents kept buying them, I'm not a fan but DS has enjoyed them.

I've seen Percy Jackson come up a few times when I've been looking, will have a look at them again.

And will look at the Pratchett recommendations.
