I didn’t know where to post this, it’s extraordinarily moving. What wonderful sisters. What a wonderful little girl.

My sister was killed at Epsom College. These are my letters to her

My sister was killed at Epsom College. These are my letters to her

In February the head teacher Emma Pattison and her seven-year-old daughter, Lettie, were killed by her husband. The next day her sister, Deborah Kirk, seeking solace, began to write. Here she shares some of her words

Heart breaking. Beautifully written.

I couldn’t read any further.

tenbob · 10/12/2023 12:30

That is one of, if not the most powerful things I’ve ever read

What an incredible act of love and bravery by Deborah to share such intimate thoughts with the world

I can’t really find the words to do justice to such amazing writing

Saucery · 10/12/2023 12:38

Well now. Those are just incredible, particularly the daffodil piece.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 10/12/2023 16:52

I know some of you couldn’t finish it but I’ve read it over and over. Very differently we lost my Aunt to suicide and only after realised the DV in her relationship with my uncle. The grief still runs so deep. I know this is a completely different situation but some parts, especially the daffodils really helped me.

…One for her daddy.

In all her grief, that moment of forgiveness shows such humanity.

Moredarkchocolateplease · 11/12/2023 10:01

I couldn't get through them, I was sobbing.

Poor woman, so professionally and socially strong and successful and yet again a bloody man brings her down.

Beautiful writing. The bulbs will stay with me forever.

I've never had a sibling relationship like that or a friendship, that is something to truly be envious of.

Orangebadger · 11/12/2023 21:02

I don't have words for this. I was very teary reading it and had to stop often. I am an only child so that close sibling bond doesn't resonate with me as it might do for some but I could feel at least some of the pain through her words.

SerpentEndBench · 11/12/2023 21:16

I don't have the words.

Thank you for sharing.

CluelessPadme · 11/12/2023 21:19

Thanks for the share token OP. What beautiful writing; it hurt to read but I’m glad I did

LarkRize · 11/12/2023 21:22

Thanks for posting. I read this in the paper over the weekend and I have rarely read anything as powerful or moving. Like you I read it over and over, through tears in places.
I hope her sister continues to write - I think her words could reach a lot of people. Perhaps one small piece of good to come out of such horror.

LovedMyLastNameItHadToGo · 11/12/2023 22:34

@LarkRize I agree, I hope she continues to write too. She writes in a way that is so clear, unambiguous but equally powerful. Just raw emotion in words. So articulate.

I am already emotional tonight and that pushed me over the edge.
They really were two halves of a whole.
I have no idea how she still stands up but I applaud her bravery 🌺

Dogcatmousedog · 11/12/2023 23:23

Gosh that was a hard read ,Emma’s sister is a beautiful writer . Emma was a very popular headteacher, and the pupils were absolutely stunned when this happened in February . How the family have managed to carry on ,is beyond my comprehension.

TheaBrandt · 11/12/2023 23:26

I would feel that if it were one of my sisters. The part about her reaction to the immediate aftermath was very powerful.

fourelementary · 11/12/2023 23:39

Truly devastating and beautiful.

Holdmeclosedontletmego · 11/12/2023 23:58

Written beautifully and my heart is sobbing. We drive pass where the house once stood, once a week, on the grounds of Epsom college and each time I reflect on what happened. When the house was there, I used to look over when we drove past. It would be 6pm, lights on and I’d imagine them having a family dinner. I had no idea (like the rest of us) what poor Emma had to put up with behind those doors. How scared she must have felt.
